Alex Smith has re-signed.

They have signed him a few more weapons as well. Hopefully Moss and Manningham can provide a more vertical threat for the offense and allow Crabtree/Davis/Gore/Hunter to roam underneath with more space.

The defense was straight up nasty last year. Absolutely dominated the line of scrimmage. Any improvement on offense is key. They were a Super Bowl team last year short an injury to Ginn which opened the door for inexperienced PR in *cough* Kyle Williams to literally fumble away the entire season.

We didn't get a free agent RG like we wanted. We'll probably address that need early in the draft.

Signed Josh Johnson as a back up. Harbaugh coached him at USD.

Tells me we're not behind Alex Smith for the long haul.

Why? You guys have Gore and behind him you have Anthony Dixon who was drafted in 2010 and you also have Kendall Hunter who you got in the draft last year.

I think the thought process is that if the price is right it takes stress and punishment off of Gore in short yardage situations while at the same time staying within the ball-possession philosophy that served them well last year. Ultimately, less wear and tear on Gore the better, imo.

I dont think the bills, jets and vikings makes for *that* rough of a stretch.

The Bills when healthy will be a handful, and they should be at the beginning of the year. If the Jets are playing with clear heads and can get away from the drama, they are not an easy win. Vikings are the only one of the group that I feel comfortable about.
