Recruiting: We're going to be fine lads and lasses. We currently have a 3.08 star ranking with Scout, with them showing 13 commitments. With Rivals, our star average is 3.18 with 16 commitments. I've been told we'll take no more than 22 kids on signing day unless there's a huge surprise that we can't turn away and then we'd take 23. Provided we finish with 22 that would be an added 9 kids to the Scout list. If we get five 3* kids and four 4* recruits that would put our star average at 3.23. With that kind of average we'd be ranked somewhere between 8 and 12 on the Scout rankings. That's a very reasonable possibility. Fulmer always closes strong.

Mitch Mustain: Come on folks, cut the kid some slack. He's 17-18 years old, he's a hot prospect, and he decided to take a few more trips on the other guy's nickel. Think back to when you were that age and tell me that you wouldn't have enjoyed those adventures. Yeah, he probably shouldn't have committed to Arkansas that early, but looking around didn't hurt anyone. Sometimes we get a little too worked up over where an 18 year old kid is going to play football. He's young and he deserved to take all the trips he was legally allowed to. No one was hurt. Too many folks get worked up about the goings and comings of a teenager. I wish him all the best until he plays the Orange. Then, I hope he's eating dirt and picking grass from his face mask all day long. He will be. After all, they're still going to be Arkansas and we're still going to be Tennessee. Enough said?

2006 Football Team: We have all the pieces in place to make a run at the SEC Championship. We've got a great offensive coordinator back on The Hill and he'll get it done in short order. We have the talent on defense to put a top 10 defense on the field. We have enough offensive weapons, if coached up properly, to score enough points on anyone to win. The line will be helped with the return of Sears. We've got some young line prospects that are hungry and have shown some signs of greatness in relief rolls. Our WR corps will have a different look. The faces may be the same, but you won't see our receivers reaching out for passes with one hand when two are available. Cutcliffe will have their butts on the wood if they pull that crap with him.

Quarterback: Erik Ainge has a lot of potential, but Jon Crompton has tremendous potential. Remember, he was the 5* QB everyone wanted last year. Well, we've got him. I understand he's been throwing with his HS coach and the reports are that he's as good as ever. With Cut pulling his strings he'll be a great one for us. I predict that he'll get the start coming out of Spring, provided the shoulder allows for him to compete that early. If not, he'll win the job in the summer. I have a very high level of excitement for this youngster.

Off Field Problems: If we have 1 I'll be very surprised. Cutcliffe will not stand for it on his side of the locker room. Fulmer knows he's under a microscope this off-season. He can't afford a rerun of the spring and summer of 05.

Upcoming Draft: I hope everyone here is pulling for all of our guys to get a good look. I really hope Jason Hall gets a shot and is drafted. Someone will get a very good kid and a hard worker who has potential for the next level if the take a chance on him. They won't be sorry. Rob Smith could have improved his stock by coming back but he had his reasons for leaving and I wish him all the best. He's a no-nonsense type of player who'll go to work every day for his NFL team and I believe he can be a starter in a few years.

VolNation: How has everyone been doing here? I've taken a bit of a sabbatical from the site, but I hope to be posting more in the future, especially as we approach Spring Practice.

its about time someone agrees with me in recruiting. we are the favorites for some studs that havent signed yet... If we get those guys and maybe someone we didnt expect we are at LEAST a top 15 class.. now who would have thunk it eh?

Nice to see you back you need to drop by alittle more...

Great post. We should, at the very least, have a top 15 class as mentioned above. Also, the top number for the class that I'm hearing is 24. We'll likely have atleast one commit not qualify and there will probably be some attrition from the current roster. We could very well see one or two current players put on medical hardship and it's always possible that some leave on their own.

Nothing is ever as good or bad as it seems, but the reality is that the Vols will begin next season outside of the top 25 with a proven coach, but an unproven QB and OL. I will have whatever Oldvol is drinkin.

You might be right. Then again you might not. Nothing is certain at this point. I also think Ainge is front runner but he doesn't have it tied up.

Pour me a double and we'll sit around and talk about reality while the rest of these guys blow smoke up each others butts.

Oddly enough, my first game was an away game at Alabama. It was 1969. I was a very poor lad. I went on a recruting trip with several kids from my area. As it turned out it wasn't a good day for the Bear's boys. The Vols hammered them 41 to 14. My days with the Vols go back farther than that though. I'm so old that I can remember George Mooney calling the play by play on the radio. The radio is where I first came to love the Vols.

I may have a few years on you.

PAC-10 AND MID MAJOR FOOTBALL DRULES :D

There, that ought to do it. It's amazing what one little letter change can do to improve a false statement. :D

If this above wasn't so blindingly funny it would be obnoxiously pathetic. Look at this interview I found:

Man W/ Brains: OldVol, tell me who you would pick to win an SEC Championship. Name the pieces that team would have.

OV: Ok, for starters, they would have no QB coming into the new year. That's no big deal. :ermm: They would have lost key components of their OL and have to rebuild it. Again, minor issues. Special teams, they need to be awful but who needs STs anyway. Linebackers, not really that important so no problem if they graduate their three starters. Their receivers can't win a deep ball and few can catch with any consistency. No problemo, trust me here. Oh, got a couple of quality RBs, they'll learn to hang on to the ball and not cost the team games. :cross: One more thing. This team must have a coach who is coming off not only a losing season but a loser recruiting season but he can do the one thing to turn all this around.

MwB: What is that?

OV: :clapping: :clapping: :clapping: :clapping: :clapping: :clapping: :clapping: :clapping: :clapping: :clapping:
