I read an article earlier today; the gist of the article was how HS players are getting screwed due to the new Covid rules. You know, how every single player gets an extra year, therefore putting every team behind the eight ball when it comes to numbers; not to mention the lax transfer rule that was recently put into place. One coach mentioned in the article that some coaches aren't really recruiting that much; mostly hitting the portal. As UT sits here waiting on the NCAA to potentially lower the boom, do these new rules help Tennessee in recruiting even though everyone, including recruits, and their families, know the NCAA is going to hit us with sanctions??

Teams are still recruiting high school players. The 25 initial counter rule is keeping the portal from being total chaos. I can imagine some of the lowest rated high school players might be getting squeezed down the food chain some but I don't see how that helps us. We are facing the same conditions other schools are facing and we have the investigation and sanctions looming. Heupel's recruiting won't be capable of being fairly judged for several years. He is not on as level of a playing field as either Butch or Pruitt were the day they took the job.

We talked about this in the football talk thread. Our conclusion was that teams were going to have to be able to keep more players for a while and phase that out gradually in order to not hurt high school players chances of getting a scholarship.
