When is somebody going to wake up. We had this idiot several years ago and got run off. How do you allow him on the property to allow DB's to
be taught never look back for the ball. Never be in the rite position. Allow receivers to run by them then try and catch up. Worst offensive line that's ever played, Ollie Layne and Dayne Davis couldn't block a tinker toy. When was the last time we recruited a 5 star lineman? We might go 6 and 5. Where were our world class defensive ends from 2 weeks ago? Where was Beasley never heard his name called. Got beat by a 30 year old wet behind the ears Def, Cordinator. Water boy for Kirby.

Martinez is a weakness but last night he wasn't the problem.

The defense was dazed and confused for about 20 minutes in the1st half. They panicked.
On the other side, the OL was awful.
Penalties: real ones, petty ones and the ones not called destroyed our chances of comeback.
Timeout management: really hurt us in the game.

Willie Martinez has literally made a great living, has become enriched, off of not developing players, not teaching them the right technique, not teaching them to turn around and either not teaching them to tackle properly or worse teaching them the wrong way on purpose (for some sick and demented purpose).

There is literally a bad track record for secondaries everywhere he has coached. His continued employment status is beyond a head scratcher. He is either the best conartist ever or has major, major dirt on all kinds of people......

^100% agree. I think the only thing he does well is recruit but even that is suspect IMHO.

Banks is likely the biggest problem. Defense issues are present within the entire unit.
At some point when you can't get off the field on 3rd and long or behind the chains for three years in a row, it becomes the DC responsibility.

Yeah we can rush the passer, and that's an upgrade, but I'm a novice armchair coach and could self scout us and know that UF's game plan was exactly what it was. If teams are going to throw quick passes b/c of pressure, then you man up WRs at LOS and challenge them to throw it deep. We let them dink and dunk us, which may have been a good strategy until our D was gassed because our offense stayed on the field about a minute, and then we couldn't tackle in the run game.

Wasn’t there some controversy between Heupel and Banks a season or 2 ago. I think Banks is gone. Then the new DC gets to pick his assistants.

I don't have the stats to back it up but UT has to be among the worst defenses consistently on 3rd down. Especially 3rd and long. It's almost an automatic when there is a 3rd and long situation that the opponent gets the 1st down. I literally cringe every time it's third and long.

Martinez isnt awful. But he’s not good. He’s just average. He’s put some guys in the NFL. But who has ever made all SEC? The fact that Hadden can’t cover nor tackle but plays all the time is a problem. And wants to fight when it doesn’t matter.

Also, where was D Slaughter? Neither he nor Mincey seemed to play despite making the trip.

We are seeing the same things in year 3 as in year 1. Martinez is the worst assistant on this staff and it’s not close.

There are multiple problems both coaching and players. There’s not a position without issues on this team. RB is the closest group to being solid. Everything else has depth and ability flaws that aren’t fixable.

I don’t understand it. UGA fired him and he has had two stints at TN. UGA DBs improved (yes they recruited elite talent) improved after he left.

There are sooo many issues with this team right now that trying to point to one or two as the issue is just not going to cover it at all.

Quick , name 3 games where Tn defense shut down the other team in the last 3 years ? If you look at how Georgia won the last 2 NC's, it was their defense controlling the game. They took pride in not letting opponents get first downs much less score on them The Tn coaches just don't seem to be able to make adjustments during the game

Huepel said we are going to be elite on defense. I made a mistake in thinking he was speaking about this season. He won't achieve elite status unless some staff changes are made. I would love to see a dominant defense wearing Orange.

It’s year three of Martinez and Banks. This defense still looks the same . . . And I see zero progress. If you don’t count year 1, they have had a full 2 years to recruit or use the transfer portal . . . And to show their “style of play.” This defense is not good. It’s not good at any level. Our front 7 - which was supposed to be the “strength” of the team got their rears handed to them by a Florida oline that is good but not great. If losing a transfer player (Pili) makes the whole line backing group fall apart . . . We are in serious trouble. The drop off from him appears to be massive. 3rd and Chavis is approaching a change to 3rd and Banks. The tackling is atrocious . . . And not just against Florida. It was not good against Austin Peay. And the secondary is simply bad.

I don’t know what the answer is . . . And I don’t know if they can get better coaches than Banks and Martinez or not . . . But it’s pretty obvious we will always suck on defense with those two.

The offense is struggling because the oline is not very good . . . And Milton is a big drop off from HH.

I'm not ready to send Banks packing, but didn't like the Martinez hire from the moment he stepped on campus. We've got some talented guys in that DB room that aren't seeing the field, some experienced guys who have shown zero progression and some guys who are insanely inconsistent despite being some of our most experienced players. Sending hadden back out there when he is refusing to ****ing wrap up and tackle is just coaching malpractice. I think Martinez should be gone this week.

I think there could be strength and conditioning issues as well. The entire team, especially the defense, looked tired and soft.

I haven't seen this mentioned, but I wonder if the reductions we lost in scholarships from the NCAA penalties hurt us in getting some defensive guys in the portal ? If I'm not mistaken we agreed to lose some players in that deal
