Because back then his comedy was creative and pushed boundaries instead of lazy “what’s the deal with trans people? I’m confused!” conservative grievances. Dave’s comedy has taken a hard right turn since his comeback, the change is him not “libs”

If anything it’s that people like Gervais try so hard to be edgy and offensive that they forget to be funny. Agree with you about that when comedians forget to be funny. Content is more important than edgy or offensive but nothing wrong when both are combined.
