If there isn't an almost total overhaul in the offseason, this franchise is on its way right back to where it was from 2001-2009.

First guy out the door should be Baker. I would like a general manager who isn't afraid to take away worthless pieces that the manager insists on playing either. I am sick to death of Dusty acting like it is some big shock that we are losing, but continuing to pitch Arroyo, Ondrusek and Masset and starting Cairo

I see what the change in approach Kirk Gibson brought to Arizona has done for that franchise. I'll say it for the 8,775th time: Until they change the country club culture that took hold in the Griffey/Dumb years, there won't be any sustained success.

The best thing that could happen to this team would be to go about 1-5 this week. Then, they'd be out of excuses as to why Alonso, Frazier, and Mesoraco aren't in the lineup and LeCure and Wood aren't getting the ball every five days.

only thing you have to do is put a runner on base and bruce can't touch the ball. he is horrible, sort of reminds me of arron boone when he was on the roids.

Since you mention Gibson and Arizona, what kind of success do you expect for the Diamondbacks going forward?

It seems that every time the Diamondbacks look like they're about to turn things around, they just fall apart.

Their system is absolutely loaded with young power arms. You have to like their chances of being good for a while.

Thanks. Two great arms helped them get the world series 10 years ago. Hopefully they'll get back soon.

Out of curiosity, why are you a Reds fan?

My grandfather worked in the Ford plants in suburban Cincinnati and I used to go up for games every summer. The Reds were also the closest team to where I grew up and the local radio station was an affiliate on their radio network.

Makes sense. I think I resent Cincinnati and Cleveland sports teams a little because their existence in the big 3 sports guarantees that Columbus won't get anything.

Riverfront was a summer pilgrimage for me as well. Can still remember sweating my rear end off.

17-26 in one-run games this season. Of those 26 one-run losses, how many of them were caused by bullpen and lineup blunders, or trying to squeeze one more inning out of a gassed starting pitcher (the Dusty special)? Let's conservatively estimate 5. Add 5 wins, subtract 5 losses and the Reds are 60-54, 4 1/2 games out with 48 left to play.

More stat dork fun: the Reds have a run differential of +35. The Brewers are at +26. The Reds are 55-59. The Brewers are 65-50. The Giants at 63-52 despite being OUTSCORED this season by 7 total runs.

Anyone can manage when you're winning or losing by 10 runs. It's making the right calls in the close, late-inning pressure-packed situations that separates Bochy or Scioscia or even LaRussa from Dusty.

So what your saying in all of that is that dusty has blown all or most of those wins, because he is worthless. If that is what you were getting at, then I totally agree. That guy has cost us more games this season with just pathetic management in game situations.

That is precisely what I am saying. Dusty's managerial decisions have hurt this team where it counts - wins and losses - far more than underperforming players like Rolen, Arroyo, Stubbs, Renteria, etc.

Definitely a conservative estimate, because i can think of five since th All Star break

Apparently, none of this really mattered after all, because the Brewers have apparently decided to run away and hide from everyone. 27-8 over their last 35.

Let's not forget the following scenario.

Bottom of the ninth. 2-1 game, Reds trailing. Men on first and second with one out. Adam Dunn at the plate, beginning his 5th consecutive 40 HR season. Dunn was batting 7th, with Paul Bako on deck and the pitcher's spot in the hole.

Dusty Baker sent Adam Dunn up there to do one thing...to sacrifice bunt so that Paul Bako could win it. Paul Bako, he of the career .231/.305/.318 line. Paul Bako would be the hero after Adam Dunn and his roughly .400 OBP went down in the name of a sacrifice bunt.

Dunn, with his two career sacrifice bunts, took two feeble attempts at a bunt, then dug in and crushed a game-ending three-run HR. And undoubtedly Marty Brennaman, who has been slowly lapsing into senility since 1997, praised Dusty Baker for "winning strategy".

Makes sense. I think I resent Cincinnati and Cleveland sports teams a little because their existence in the big 3 sports guarantees that Columbus won't get anything.

Well hell, if Columbus got an NFL team, then Cincinnati would want one too!

Went to pnc and took in the reds game saturday. first off pnc park is the best in the majors in my opinion. second dusty is the worst manager in the majors and the reds need to trade double play jay bruce while he still has value. Heard a number of people behind the bench saying what a head case he is. regardless when there are runners on base he is beyond worthless. you could tell that the pirates pitchers were only worried about votto and phillips in the line up, nobody else.
