Aren't nearly as bad as the media and others around the league complain about. Hell, it's just their second week on the job.

Mike Tirico whined last night about a couple plays that turned out to be right. The illegal substitution he said was just ridiculous... two seconds later a practice called "counting" confirmed the call on the field.

The play at the end of the Ravens game, which Ray Lewis is fuming about, turned out to be the right call.

I'd tell the refs who are striking to go **** themselves. They have a cush job, and if they aren't happy they can go find a real job... there are plenty of people who are willing to take their spot and be just as effective.

The ones doing the whining all are part of the "fraternity" so naturally have a jaded opinion on the matter.

In the minds of fans the replacement refs seem worse in games that they care about. I noticed that for myself. I was saying exactly what you are saying until the Cowboys and Broncos games this weekend.

I will say there is less professionalism (they got the call right last night on a PI, but like 10 seconds after the play was dead), but I wonder what the actual difference is in the number of bad calls.

The biggest issue hasn't been the actual calls. It's the chaos. It undermines everything about the game when it looks like nobody's in charge.

I agree. Two real weeks on the job and they are doing fine. Only to get better with each week.

Goodell needs to pull a Ronald Reagan and tell them, "You know what, we just dont need you anymore", as Reagan told the air traffic controllers when they pulled a strike on him.

Seriously, I don't know what the refs are thinking. They make well into the 6 figures for a part time job.

This is what gets me. The real refs miss calls and there is just as much pissin and moaning about them. Taking a full hour to play 15 minutes of football last night was absolutely nuts.

It doesn't bother me that they miss some penalties, as the regular guys do too. I would accept the time add-ons, as long as they get the calls right. What can't be ignored is that by and large, they don't seem to have full knowledge of the rulebook and how/when to assess the particulars (change of down, LOS, etc.) of some calls.

I would like to throw out that ESPN does more than their part in making 15 minutes drag. I knew I was in for a long night prior.

Apparently a scab ref calling the eagles game had mccoy on his fantasy team and told him to pick it up in the middle of a game.

This is the level of professionalism we are dealing with

I feel ya, I want to watch a football game not listen to John Gruden or whoever it is, get on with the game. I'm convinced instant replay's main purpose is to fit in another commercial. They have the result of a confirmed touchdown in 5 seconds, yet it takes 5 minutes to overturn one.

OK, that is crazy.

A sideline ref was recently suspended because he is a Saints fan and was assigned to a Saints game...like ESPN said, these aren't the 2nd or 3rd teamers...these are the 6th teamers.

Theyre not even that.

These refs are completely out of their element. GA nailed it in the mnf thread. These guys are not capable of managing an nfl game.

If it is a prize league, literally discussing gambling with a player in game. Brilliant.

Exactly. They don't seem to be in control at critical times, which is more of an issue than missing a call or two.

He wasn't suspended. He's being reassigned because of his admitted love for the Saints

They'll get better. But not like it matters that much anyway. Nobody is turning off their TV sets because they don't like the officials. The NFL has all the leverage in this situation, and the striking refs are morons

they're not striking; they're locked out by the league

I take it most of you didn't see the Arizona- Seattle week 1 game where the refs gave the Seahawks an extra timeout at the Arizona 6 with 30 seconds to go?
