I thought this weekend in Texas provided a great vignette on the real state of the nation.

While Rick and the 30,000 were praying for a nation in trouble, and possibly reflecting on Oprah as a minion of Satan, 100,000 turned out for the free food and school supplies in the back-to-school event held about five miles away. They had to close it down at 10am and turn people away.

Could the state of the nation - a state I talk about every day on here - be any clearer? Let us NOT look at the real world outside the back door while the wealth is vacuumed into fewer and fewer hands.

wonder why gibbs doesn't appear troubled by Obama's $40,000/plate birthday fundraisers?

Or the fact Obama added eight limos to the fleet that costs (each limo) 4.6 mil per year.

What's the point? Everyone is struggling and seeking an answer to their problems.

For the 30K, they turn to their faith in a higher power and then many went home and finished paying their bills.

For the 100K this was just another free hand out they expect to receive from the government, charities, their schools etc.

I'm not an economist so can someone tell me which economic model since the fall of Rome incorporates such a level of entitlement that people refuse to even pretend to look for work? It's bread and circuses all over again.

I'm no fan of Obama - although I did wish him well in the beginning. I am one of his most trenchant critics on this board.

If I don't decry all the mechanisms of our debauched politics, please understand I am taking aim at the superstructure itself.

Don't think it could be any clearer that people like free ****. I've worked a couple of health fairs over the years. Take your eyes off the free pens for one second and some jackass walks away with 30 of them.

Thanks for pointing out that those "shovel ready jobs" the President promised weren't there so people are broke, jobless and hungry. i agree 130,000 people were in Texas today praying for the nation and trying to find there next meal because their hope (BO) turned out to be a hoax. Don't be soo naive to think because some people were in the bread line that they don't go home and pray every night.

Just a lame try at trying to discredit peoples faith.

Actually, I was pointing out exactly that the Obama administration has failed to create those "shovel ready jobs." It's a fundamental failure (of neoliberalism of which Obama is a subscriber) to create a full employment economy, to ensure a minimum of proper health care, to revolutionize education.

Although I am a man respectful of religion, I think the groups associated with Gov Rich are dubious in the extreme, AND I will say, I believe in rolling up the sleeves and getting entwined in the real world outside the back door. I believe we are here to solve our own problems....

Sorry my assumptions of your intent were wrong. However , i do not see anything more extreme with those in attendence than say Rev. Jeremiah Wright, Rev. Jim Wallis, Rev. Jackson or Rev, and i use the term Rev. loosley with all these named, Rev. Sharpton. To pervert the scripture to your forward your agenda is wrong on both extremes.
