Rick for president. Sorry Ainge, we gave you more than enough opportunity.

I'm just glad Phil pulled him instead of being pig headed. Great move and an excellent performance from Clausen.

Words can't describe how happy I am for him and this team. I said a while back that it would be sweet if he got the chance to beat them. Great game...

Finally, the discussion is officially finally without doubt over. Ainge had a shot but Rick is the man. Thanks Rick for a great performance. What character to sit on the sideline and yet have what it takes to come in and lead us to a victory. I can't say enough. GO VOLS AND GO RICK!!!!

This is a modified post from another thread I responded to, but I think it applies here too:

Mr. Clausen's middle son, you know, the one that has a weak arm, bad mechanics, and no mobility, just proved himself as a leader tonight. And IMO just won the starting job for this season. But with the way CPF has handled the QB situation, who knows. The team plays totally different when he's in the game.

This is no knock against Ainge. In fact I believe that Ainge should have been the #1 at the start, because I believe you should never lose your starting position due to injury. Now, while it should have been clear that Ainge was the #1, it should have also been clear that he needed to do 2 things quickly: earn the trust and respect of the team as a leader and play up to his billed potential. He did neither, and went out in the first half of the LSU game and pulled a C. J. Leak imitation. It should have also been clear that if he did not do these 2 things that it would be likely that Clausen would replace him.

There should be no question now who the QB is. I hate it for Ainge, but Slick Rick beat him out fair and square. We know what kind of character Rick Clausen has, and he's made of. We're about to find out over the next 9 months what Erik Ainge is made of.

Way to go Rick. Not only for playing such a great game, but for pulling this team out of the hole that they were in & giving them the confidence they needed to overcome such a deficit. You're not only the qb, you are a coach in the middle of the huddle.

The team is always more comfortable and confident when Rick is the QB. Rick should be the starter from now on, no questions asked. I'm very proud of what he did last night. He brought the Vols back to life and led them to victory. Excellent job Rick! :thumbsup:

Didn't someone say the team was behind Rick more than EA?

What a gunfighter! :gun:

WAY TO GO RICK!!! Just an excellent performance. It was really great to see how the whole mood of the team change on both sides of the ball when they brought him in. Everyone seemed to have a little extra and it paid off.

Rick, Can't wait until the "Rick" movie comes out. You are more than the legendary "Rudy" and will go down in history as perhaps Tennessee's Most Beloved! I know your redemption has drawn nigh but don't be to hard on Fulmer. Destiny scripted this story and Fulmer had to do his part. I know that deep inside he wanted you to have this success more than you did yourself. That has always been one of my knocks on him..He's too soft hearted. And after watching the first series of the Florida game alot of us felt he had made the right decision to go with Ainge and many of us were rejoicing that he finally made a businesslike decision...eventhough in his heart we all knew he wanted it to be you. We now see what he and your teammates see and we should repent for the pressure fans put on him to go with Ainge. The fickle fan, myself included, owe you a heartfelt apology. You represent the Spirit of the Volunteer so much better than we do. Congradulations! Now, go lead us to Pasedena!

I just hope Phil is done "craw fishing" at this point and will let Rick show everyone what he's got and develop even more. Here are some sticking points and myths about Clausen:

* He knows the playbook like the back of his hand
* He can manage the team effectively
* Everyone LOVES him
* He can recognize what the defense is getting ready to bring and get into the right protection
* He doesn't get rattled
* He gets the job done

* weak arm? I'm not seeing that to be the case or a factor
* no mobility? He moves better than Ainge
* gives the team a lesser chance of winning? HA!

During the Florida game, when Ainge drove down the field and scored, the first person I saw congratulate him from the sideline was Rick Clausen.

Anybody see Ainge return the favor last night?

I thought Rick got the shaft from the get-go and I hope CPF sees the err in his ways.
