Mr. Casey Clausen. If their was a quarterback that could get it done on the road and against the Tide in Tuscaloosa it was him.

He was a gamer and found a way to win. The iceman!
I stumbled across this and didn't realize his numbers were so damn good so I thought I'd share a legend that never lost "The Third Saturday in October" on the road.

GO VOLS!!!

Love me some Casey Clausen. I feel is is the most under-appreciated Vol of my time. I got annoyed with him in 2002 with the comment about beating UGA with an arm tied behind his back, but that dude could win. Loved his confidence although it may have bitten him a time or two. If he was coached by Cut I would bet he would have been 1st rounder

I agree OP.

He had several big wins but that 5 ot game in tuscaloosa made him a Legend.

that 2001 game in the Swamp didn't hurt. It is what happened the next week I think that tainted his legacy. (well, also what happened that night when he got off the bus with the rose).

All in all, in my time being able to remember UT football (1984 or so) and watch 1st hand, my fav Vol qb's are 1. Peyton 2. Tee. Kelly. 4. Clausen 5. Robinson.

#4 doesn't seem too good but those first 3 were pretty special. I loved Andy Kelly because some of my sweetest memories of UT football were with him. (ND game, 89 season and cotton bowl, Kelly to Pickens/Harper/Morgan 1990 season and sugar bowl

Thats a dang good list.

1 thru 4 could be changed depending on which season/game you're thinking about at the time.

For me Robinson would have to share #5 with Dickey.

Him and Kelly Washington almost ran my a** over as I crossed the street in front of the library one time - He was in a big black Tahoe, California tags, and a big power T on the back windshield.

Great QB on the road though ha

I find this difficult to believe. We've had plenty of recruits from California.....Kevin Simon, Malik Jackson, Byron Moore, etc.

True, but Ice Man had the Cali look, the west coast bravado, etc. I see what the poster meant about that not playing well in TN.

Bray had the same problem, but so exaggerated it was, that he made Clausen look humble.

Man the memory I have of Casey that sticks with me is him leading the grab ass brigade on the sidelines as we lost to unranked Clemson in the 04 Peach Bowl.

Perhaps I'm remembering it wrong, but what I mean is we were in a subpar bowl losing to a subpar Clemson and nobody really seemed to care. The guys were on the sidelines cutting up and having a grand ole time. Again, I could be remembering it wrong, I was only 17 at the time.

It was that game that I was thinking, man wtf. Why isn't Fulmer all in their asses. Why doesn't he care either?

Aside from that memory I enjoyed watching him play for sure. Would love to have another Case Clausen.

I remember that, but it's because we got screwed by not getting to go to BCS Bowl and the team felt they were overqualified for the Peach Bowl. I agreed they were, but no reason to mail it in. You see it all the time. I think they were 10-2 and top 5 or something.

Performed valiantly in his final game as a Vol, setting new career highs for completions and attempts by going 31-of-55 for 384 yards and two touchdowns in the 2004 Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl ... His 31 completions and 55 attempts in the Peach Bowl set new UT bowl-game records ... His final touchdown pass (to Mark Jones) moved him into the No. 6 spot on the SEC's touchdown-pass list with 75 for his career.

That loss wasn't on Casey but a flat effort as a team in the second half.

I am in my early 30's, but Clausen was one of the most clutch QB's on 3rd down that I have ever seen. Certainly some very good and not so good moments to remember, but most were very good. Not a huge arm but knew where to put the ball. He may have been a part of some of the greatest UT games in the past 20 years (Swamp 2001, 5OT at Bama, 6OT? against Arkansas, win at Miami, win at Arkansas where Washington had a record day).

He was one of those QBs that i hated while he was here, but later found that I would've given my right arm to have someone like him under center the last 8 years.

I had classes with him. He certainly had an IceMan like bravado.

I hadn't heard of Casey Clausen until today, when I watched footage of the 03 Bama game. Is he related to Jimmy Clausen?
