The Rocket will Finish His Career as a Yankee

It was old 2 years ago. Now it's just ridiculous.

Whatever, I haven't seen solid pitching by the Yankees aside from Mo since he left, so I'll take it, especially after Wang's near-perfect game and 5.2 shutout innings by Rasner to take it to 5 out of 6 wins.

What's amazing is the Mariners' payroll is 7th highest and they aren't worth a third of that.

I think that's more of a slight against the D-Rays.
I think that just shows how rediculous that contract is and how rediculous it is that the yankees just throw money around like that. It also shows that you can be pretty good without going out and spending a crap load of money every year if you just develop the talent that you have.

The Yankees will probably have twice the payroll of the mets (3rd highest overall) before the end of the year.

The Red Sox offered 18 mil... Oops.

Although they don't need him as much and spent 102 mil on Dice K

but its a multi year deal. he is getting paid well under what clemens is going to be paid this year in this contract for less than a season.

That wasn't my point at all. Plus they posted 51 mil just for the rights to negotiate with Dice-K. So, if you include that, their payroll approaches 200 mil as well...

well whats your point then (not trying to be a jackace, just trying to understand). My point is that Clemens is getting paid more than the entire D-Rays team by a couple million and about 2 million less than the marlins and thats rediculous.

My point is the Red Sox weren't going to break the bank like the Yanks did in order to sign him because their rotation is solid. Add to the fact that they way overbid (By almost $20 mil) to get Dice-K so I would assume that they didn't want to go past 20.

ok, but if the yankees would have known how many injuries and how bad the starting rotation has been you bet they would have been right there in a bidding war with the sox to try and get him.

If they had known that Dice-K would give up 5+ runs in 4 out of 7 starts they wouldn't have.

As I said a month or so ago, the Yankees are not constrained by payroll considerations. Whatever they want, they can afford. Once the Yankees' pitching imploded, it was obvious that they were going to pay whatever it took to get Clemens back.

As GAVol says, though, Clemens's act was old two years ago. He's always been a tool, but now he's apparently too good to bother to go through spring training and the first two months of the year. I wonder if he'll actually deign to go on road trips this season now that he's not playing in his hometown?

He's not going to have to go on road trips.

As far as being too good for spring training and the first half of the season...He's 44, soon to be 45. He knows that he cannot hold up for the whole season and that he is being paid to produce in the playoffs and to win games in the playoff race. And this happened last year, so it was understood he was going to hold off again.

Obviously everybody knew he was going to do this again -- when you can make $5m a month, why not? But just because everybody expected it doesn't mean that a whole lot of baseball fans aren't sick of it.
