I know Pearl prides himself on playing 10 men, but do you think the rotation will be tighter this year? It seems that we always subsitute around the 15-16 minute mark in the first half and it seems like the players dont really have time to get into a groove before they are taken out? I know we usually get into a tighter rotation late in the 2nd half (especially when the game is close) but I wonder if sticking with a tigher rotation for maybe the first 10 minutes would help our usual slow start to games?

I don't know that he prides himself on playing 10-deep, but for his teams' style of play, it's important to keep guys fresh. There are definitely arguments for and against the 4-5 minute rotation. I expect Bruce to substitute players about like he always has, and the rotation may look something like this...

PG- Bobby Maze (Melvin Goins)
SG- Scotty Hopson (Cameron Tatum)
SF- J.P. Prince (Renaldo Woolridge)
PF- Tyler Smith (Kenny Hall)
C- Wayne Chism (Brian Williams)

Tyler, Wayne and Scotty will likely see about 30 mpg.

I am pumped about this year. I really do think that Tyler and Chism will have the boys playing more team ball and take them deep in the tourney.

Agree with this.

I think you could also see Scotty and Cam on the court at the same time a bit with Scotty as SF

That's a really limited starting 5 from a shooting perspective. If Cam plays any D at all, he's a better option than Prince.

I would be ecstatic if Tatum started over Prince, but I just don't think it will happen.

I think we'll see nothing but zone until we prove we have an outside game. Look at what we saw last year. Anyone that could play zone did. That is a major contributor to why we looked inadequate in the half-court offense. One of the areas we must improve is a half court offense against the zone.

I have seen a comment from Pearl about Tatum playing small forward and not backing up Hopson. He wants to play Hopson and Tatum some at the same time. Look for Tatum to backup Prince. That may mean McBee is the backup SG.

He could, but I'm pretty sure Pearl hasn't worked him at the 4...at all.

There would be no reason to work Wayne, B. Williams, and Kenny all exclusively at the 5. I read that Kenny will see some time at the 5, but I'm pretty sure he's penciled in as Tyler's backup. That is, unless Bruce has decided to bump B. Williams out of the rotation.

So this is what you're saying:

Maze (Goins)
Hopson (McBee)
Prince (Tatum)
Smith (Woolridge/Hall)
Chism (Williams)

Woolridge gets bumped out of the rotation, or backs up Tyler at the 4? I remember Bruce mentioning a possible 8 or 9-man rotation this season, and if that's the case, McBee won't be seeing any playing time with the exception of certain situations.

I think this is pretty accurate. Tatum will (or, at least, should) be given a chance to take the starting job away from J.P., who I think is far more effective as a sixth man than as a starter. Having Hopson and Tatum on the floor at the same time would, I hope, force teams out of constant zone and give Tyler and Wayne some extra love in the paint.

As for McBee, there's nothing wrong with having the Cameron Mills type 3-point gunner off the bench. In fact, this team hasn't really had that guy since, who, Terrence Woods?

Think that group would see some zone?

Given what we saw as a zone offense last year, we're going to see it anyway. Our wing athleticism should murder one, but we like to just pass the ball around the horn, while leaving the center of the zone unoccupied.

Woolridge will get bumped out of the rotation and Hall will back up Smith in my opinion. Nothing suggests to me that Woolridge would be a better option than Hall at the 4.
