Trying to gauge interest in thread devoted to 60s and 70s, particularly those who watched single-wing football, remember cheap smokes and those who are still trying to adapt to flip phones. Key topics would be popular culture of those times and UT sports, but anything goes. Don't know my way around VN, so re-direct if there's a similar thread.

FYI: avatar (?) is tribute to Memphis band that deserves to be in rock hall of fame

Big Star is the band that people hear about when a hugely successful band name-drops them as being a primary influence.
first learned of big star from roling stone when no. 1 record was released …

never saw original lineup but saw stringellow-auer -bell-chilton for first time in a Memphis in may appearance

dbs and replacements were among the first to mention them

thanks. glad to hear you're familiar with them. one of the band's few appearances was on UT campus. Had the internet been around, I mightve made the show. Was working at newspaper where you could rarely get a weekend off.

watched a little of the Iron Basketbowl tonight and was wondering again where the students stole the pogoing thing. Was it from Cameron Crazies, who stole it from Punk days of 70s, or am I missing something?

Caught a little of Bluegrass Underworld with Nitty Gritty Dirt Band. Nice venue and and can't believe I didn't know about venue until about 2 yrs ago.
Finally, about time Marc Bolend T-Rex made the Hall
