So it would appear to the masses on here. I think people need to settle down. A few observations and this is just my opinion.
1. Butch Jones hiring may turn out to be a very good thing around for UT. He seems to act like a coach instead of the predecessor. He actually has a winning record even if earned in smaller conferences. Places like Cincy/Central Michigan have smaller budgets, are stepping stone jobs and do not equate what results can be obtained in the SEC. Saban and Miles had mediocre records prior to getting their 1st SEC gigs @ LSU. Butch Jones is a rising coach in the making and can bring Tennessee back to prominence with time.
2. All of this ranting about Tee Martin spurning UT is ludicrous. He has a better situation where he is at all around. Great weather, great athletes and a tradition rich program at USC. Who knows what the factors were that led to his decision, but it is not worth bashing the man. None of us would make lateral moves to other companies for less money. I think Tee did the right thing by meeting Butch Jones face-to-face. He is an up and coming position coach who has not stayed very long at his destinations; his longest stay was at Kentucky.
3. Programs get down. It is the cycle of life. Bama, USC, Notre Dame, Michigan and Nebraska have all been through it. UT will come back. It just takes time. We as fans have to realize & understand patience. It sucks what has happened to our beloved program, but in due time VOLS will be kicking the crap out of opponents again; competing for SEC/Nat'l Championships.
4. Recruiting will pick up again when the results are seen on the field. The same goes for high profile coaches/coordinators (if UT has to search for another coach/coordinator). This is a results driven industry just like the NFL. It is a business.
In closing I think Butch Jones could be on the Hill for a very long time. What choice do fans have but to give this guy a chance and the support to turn this thing around?
Go Vols and good luck to Butch Jones....may he become a Tennessee legend amongst legends.
