Putting aside for the moment who you support, the reality appears to be that the Obama campaign is largely on cruise control while the McCain campaign is struggling to decide whether to go on the purely character attack or try to re-direct the conversation to national security.

The problem is, the more they attack the more they risk validating the complaint that McCain doesn't want to talk econmics.

As an aside, this morning Glenn Beck actually said Obama is like Mussolini. I thought that was a wee bit over the top. Point is, no one on Obama's side is making similar remarks about McCain and that tells you something about the state of the campaigns.

The only thing this election accomplishes is definitive proof of the downward spiral of the United States when these two pieces of trash is the best we have to offer for president.

The point was to talk about strategy and what their choices are at this point, not so much who is right.

Both sides have had their fair share of attacks. I disagree about comments not coming from the other side. Did you not see the other thread from TennNC regarding McCain KKK connection allegations? This is happening on so many levels across the country.

Yes, the association attacks have. But no one has called McCain a terrorist or Mussolini.

Palin is starting to make ridiculous racist remarks about Obama. At a recent rally, after a Palin remark on the media, one of her supporters told a black cameraman "sit down n***a." Later in the speech, while attacking Obama, a man shouted "KILL HIM!" No effort was made at civility. I think this is a dangerous turning point in the election as well as a certain segment of our population. It's a time when fear and racism take precedence to substance.

Nothing you included is a quote from Palin.

Do you enjoy lying?

Plotting the words HUSSEIN and TERRORISTS throughout a speech in front of rich, white, Florida retirees is subtext. Read into it. Worse than that, in my opinion, are reports of Palin attempting to ban books while she was a mayor. That's my opinion and you have yours. Hello!

Barack Obama, she told 8,000 fans at a rally here Monday afternoon, "launched his political career in the living room of a domestic terrorist!"

^That's a fact not opinion.

Fact the terrorist was a white male. Bill Ayers is white.

I could have missed but I saw no quote attached to her in which she used the word Hussein.

Fact, she did not attempt to ban books while mayor, those have already proven to be false.

Um, I think TennNC was being ironic...trying to make a point about ridiculous associations. Read his post again, and pay close attention to the last line.

McCain has worked closely on many occasions with Sen. Robert Byrd, D-W. Va.

They are both in the so-called "Gang of 14" in the US Senate together. They also have co-sponsored legislation and amendments together during their many years serving the Senate together.

Byrd was an active KKK member and leader until about 1947, when John McCain was 11 years old.

Should we question McCain's affiliations? Do we know the real John McCain?

.....

Or should we see this tactic for what it is, a pathetic, baseless attempt to discredit someone b/c you're out of options?
