Guys, I was just looking at recruiting rankings for last year and this year. Zaay, Mimi, Rae, and Jazmine were all 5 star recruits and ranked in the top 10 in their respective positions. Jordan and Tamari are both 5 stars and ranked top 10 in their positions as well. Add to that Evina and Rennia who were both top 5 recruits in their class and you should have a powerhouse program. This turnaround could be very quick for our new head coach... assuming most of these players stay.

Unfortunately, also a stark reminder of how poor coaching these ladies have endured (including by the assistants as well).

Agreed, if they make the right hire there is no reason we shouldn’t be making deep tournament runs within the next couple of years.

I agree that the blame needs to be spread around too, it was not just Holly. Dean looked lost all the time too.

Turnaround could be immediate. Any of the top coaches could have taken this years team to 26+ wins and they’d be playing for an elite 8 this weekend. I remember Mercedes and Jaime playing summer ball for the US national team under Geno a few years back and both looked like different players under his coaching.

Agree. Need some shooters though. Or maybe just a coach that can coach shooting.

All I keep thinking this morning is that if it’s true that someone already knows he or she is going to be coaching Tennessee next season, then that person surehas a LOT on their minds right now. Yikes. Can you imagine? Especially if that person is still coaching in the NCAA tournament, it would have to be incredibly difficult to get any sleep with the excitement/worry/tasks/preparations for TWO programs occupying your thoughts, and to have keep one of them a secret from people you care very much about.

That’s a LOT. o_O

So I guess we should be on the lookout for the head coach who looks most like a sleep-deprived zombie for a clue at who our next coach might be. lol

But in all seriousness, I’m wondering if Phil has, or will, interview multiple candidates. While I decided a while back to trust his judgement and will throw my FULL support behind whomever he hires — no matter who that is — my hope is that he will make the call after looking seriously at at least three candidates. Seems like that would be fair. And of course, he may very well have already done that.

I think if Horston comes here and the two big centers Key and Saunders come in and everybody else stays were gonna be a top ten team with the right coach. I'm waiting to see what the roster looks like but everybody back and the addition of Horston and who knows who else certainly elevates this team.
Key may not have been a McDonald's All American but those girls that played her position in the game don't have anything talent wise on her. Saunders will help she got a lot better as a senior and she was named Gatorade player of the year in West Virginia. I like their length and size. If KK is back she will become a player she has a similar game to those All Americans that played yesterday and the right coach is all you need to get this talent on the right track.

Sounds like a Butch Jones to Jeremy Pruitt transition thread. Surely I think there is a better situation than football but we don't know the ceiling of some of these players.

Biggest issue with the shooting was that we had no half court offense. They were having to try to make individual plays to get an open shot so everything was rushed. Not to mention they all looked petrified to shoot the three because Holly hated it. Need a coach to tell them to be confident and let it fly.

Rennia has a great stroke and I see no reason she shouldn’t be more of a Victoria Vivians type player. She always played outside in, knock down the triple then give them a big old head fake the next time and blow by for the layup and the foul. Holly was obsessed with trying to force her down on the block which she was obviously not comfortable with or built for. Mimi Collins has a nice stroke from deep and can stretch a defense. Burell and Westbrook both just need to put a bunch of shots up in the off season. Holly also billed Jackson like she was some kind of big time shooter but she just didn’t have that great of a shot, funky release which lead to very inconsistent results.

Rae has the best looking jump shot on the team and Davis said the same. But as we all know Holly mismanaged this team in the worst way. I think Rae was lacking confidence and to be fair Holly had her playing the 4 a lot at 6-1 and thin it was tough for her trying to bang with the bigger players on the low block she did the best she could. We can say the same for Westbrook she wants to play pg and that has really hurt her all around game and the team. So i think playing players in the right position will help. Oh i forgot Collins is 6-3 but lacks the foot speed and jumping skills to deal with a good low block player. i`m not taking shots at any of the players just calling like i see it.

Depends on how much house cleaning there will be. You never know. Personalities can sometimes clash. You may see a bunch of transfers if the new coach comes in and is a hard ass. A drastic culture change sometimes is hard for players to handle.
