The Tennessee rugby team defeats LSU

I was there, took this pic when it was only 68-0. Tennesseeā€™s been putting a whooping on the South in Rugby at least since I was playing there in 05-08
Just curious, what makes one want to do this rather than put on the helmet and pads? Did you play American football when you were young? How do you even get started in Rugby?

I played both at Brentwood High School. Rugby is the better overall sport though I love both. In rugby, everyone on the field has multiple opportunities to both run with the ball and make big tackles. Everyone on the field has to have the ability to sprint, hit, be hit, be well conditioned, have good hand and foot skills, have good situational awareness. And from a social standpoint (as alluded to by others) there is no better game. It is understood that the home team hosts the after match drink up. Both teams share stories, and choose which player from the opposing team was their ā€œman of the matchā€. There are songs, filthy songs, and each team has their own renditions of them. This is true right up through the professional level. Globally its the worlds second biggest sport behind soccer.

As far as tackling goes, it is much more sure-tackling, wrap up in technique. You try to hit stick like in football in rugby, and you will not try again after your first time.

Great sport, and we happen to have the 2021 national championship team at our university. They deserve as much support and recognition as they can get.

Sounds like fun. Iā€™m a sport nut and will give anything a chance.
