Well, I'm here to tell you, that Bama has a lot more talent than Prothro. All UT has to do is stuff Darby, and get after Brodie....ha!
First, you aren't going to be able to stuff Darby, and you won't stop Brodie unless he doesn't play. Bama's deepest position is receiver, with Keith Brown 4.5, DJ Hall 4.4, Matt Caddell 4.4, and Ezekiel Knight 4.6 still left to play. Bama's offensive line has been doing quite well lately. Despite being freshmen, they dominated UF. Blew them off the ball. The offensively line has only been healthy for 2 weeks. They have had more than one injured player out all year, until Arkansas.
UT's offense will need to run to win against Bama. Your passing game will be shut down, for the most part. Can UT run against the Bama defense? Perhaps some, yes, but enough to win? I really don't see it.
If UT is going to beat Bama, it will take either injury, or blocked kicks, or key penalties, or fumbles, or key interceptions. It's not going to happen by whipping Bama either on offense or defense.
Add to that the fact that the game is in Tuscaloosa, and it becomes a bit more difficult. Clausen needs to improve his game, so your running game can be more effective against Bama.
There is no real coaching advantage to UT this time around. Shula and staff are doing quite well.
I'm not saying that Bama will blow UT out, but I would favor Bama based on what I have seen so far. In two weeks, Bama plays Ole Miss, so Bama has two weeks, basically, to adjust to life without Prothro.
I've been a Bama fan all of my life, and I will tell you that something special is going on in Tuscaloosa now. After being down for so long, the Tide is once again back to a good form. Bama's team is flying around like crazy. I have never seen a defense as fast as what Bama has now.
If UT is going to win, they must be able to move the ball offensively. Ricks will have to be able to run the ball. UT will have to be able to line up, jaw to jaw, and blow Bama's defense back. If, and only if, they can do that, will they have a chance to win.
As always, I appreciate you guys and your great team. Year after year, the Bama/UT game is always, despite the long winning streaks that both of our teams have had against one another, a great game, full of electricity, and this year will be no exception. Hopefully both teams can be healthy.
Best wishes against UGA. I live in Georgia, can't stand the Dawgs. Please beat em'.
