I came to Volnation expecting to read more about "Barbecuegate," as some have called it, but found nothing. I heard that some recruits and their families showed up at Pearl's house for a cookout, uninvited, and he told them it was wrong, but that he wouldn't say anything if they wouldn't. I heard that two of these recruits later signed with Ohio State and Kansas and told their respective coaches about the alleged violation. And then, of course, Bruce lied to protect his ass. Did coaches for Ohio State and Kansas rat out Bruce? If this is the case, somebody owes BP an apology.

At some point the Bruce-apologists have to stop playing him out to be the victim.

The sooner that happens the better.

I think that you have the basics of the story. No one however owes Bruce an apology.

What little I understand to be the case to add to your story was that a. the recruits parents were told it would be a violation if they stopped by the house and the bar-b-q. There was about 50 people there from what I understand. I honestly think it was very tame and unintentional but that's just my opinion.

I also think that the parents took pictures which they had to ultimately pass on to the coach at Ohio State who forwarded them on to the NCAA.

I think the initial infractions were minor and where we ran aground was when and how we responded to the NCAA. I don't know how that went down -- but there is a reason why you have your CPA's respond on your behalf to the IRS and a reason why you have your attorneys speak on your behalf when you are charged with a crime.

CBP is a big boy, he'll have to handle all consequences that come with his mistakes. I'm a supporter all the way, hopefully we don't get b**chslapped too hard, and he learns from his mistakes.

You Pearl haters go look for a better coach to replace him. Maybe you can start with Buzz. Whatever happened, he shouldn't have lied about it. Just hope penalties are not too severe.

Pearl isn't the victim. It is much more likely those people were invited and it was wrong. Either way, he was wrong. If he told them they couldn't be there the NCAA would have allowed it to go away. Then, we would be back to all the other things he did wrong. I just don't understand why so many people continue to try to pretend what he did wasn't that bad or ok, "everybody does it."

From what I have heard -- what he did was in fact not that bad. I am not going to defend what he said to the NCAA but the original transgressions when you look at the specifics were very minor imo. For example, i believe 7 of the phone violations were made on the day after one recruit committed or signed with Tennessee - congratulations, etc. that sort of stuff. You know if you get the answering machine or get a mom and junior isn't home that is still considered a contact.

Bar b q gate -- if you were going to do some hardcore recruiting you wouldn't be celebrating someone's birthday or having a housewarming and you wouldn't have 50 people in attendance.

I hope Bruce has learned a lesson - keeps his nose clean and goes on to do greater good for the Orange Nation. I love watching his the intensity that his teams play with.

They were invited. Too far fetched of a story to believe otherwise.

What if the host players invited them and they just showed up. What if Pearl is just covering his players and taking the blame for them. The point is we don't know for sure what really happened. Matta or Self could have schemed with these players to set Pearl up. There are all kinds of questions about this and the truth is we simply don't know. The AA will answer these questions before long.

That's REALLY far-fetched.

I'm a Pearl supporter, and I want him to stay until he retires (barring any MORE stupid violations like lying to the NCAA). But...dude, he screwed up on this one.

Accept it and move on.

You are truly delusional about the stature of UT basketball if you think KU has to "entrap" BP in order to get a recruit to sign. KU's legit competitors for talent year end and out is UCLA, Duke, UK, UNC. UT is a pesky mosquito that is usually an also ran on recruits' lists.

All KU has to do is show recruits their NCs, Final Fours, and the name on their gym floor to woo a recruit.

That's some serious foresight on Matta and Self's parts. Get a kid to commit to Tennessee, have a crystal ball that tells you Pearl will have a function that will allow you to entrap him, then have the kids switch allegiances and give you the evidence. They should be running the CIA.

You really think they aren't? Gawd, some of our posters are so naive...
