Today I was talking with a colleague, who was a former starting tightend for the Vols. His take on the upcoming game was that we would not be able to run the ball on Georgia's front and consequently will have difficulty moving the ball inside the 30 yard line and would have to settle for fieldgoals rather than TD's.
He also didn't have confidence that we would be able to stop Georgia's run game. He wasn't optimistic.

He's a Major's guy but I've found him to be very objective in his assessment of what's going on. He didn't say we would lose but would come down to the kicking game in a close one.

We may not have resounding success running the ball - but we will have success throwing. Our offense has executed well this year, crisp, few mistakes. I expect us to move the ball against the dogs. We only have to run enough to keep them somewhat honest.

Also, we might be able to get away with stacking the box to stop their run. Their passing game has been disappointing, and our secondary is fairly good.

I like our odds, your friend sounds like a pessimist.

With the news on Coutu (sp?), the foot of Georgia's kicker just may be the more important factor. Even without field goals, a new kicker starting this big of a game could have a serious effect on our success at returning kickoffs. I don't know anything about the backup guy. . . .guess we'll see on Saturday.

Georgia is rated #64 in rushing offense (133.4 y/g); UT is #65 (133.0)

Georgia has faced the following rush defenses:

Colorado #19
UAB #56
Ole Miss #96
South Carolina #97
Plus a 1-AA team

UT has faced the following rush defenses:

UF #4
Air Force #8
Cal #74
Marshall #78

Maybe they'll get it together but UGA has shown very little on offense. Specifically, their rushing offense has not been impressive by any means.

I saw that stat the other day and it blows my mind. Georgia is actually a little better at running the ball than the stats indicate, but I think it really points out the trouble UGA has had keeping to offense on the field.

Besides Defense; UGA has won with special teams:

National Rankings:

Punt returns: #5
Net punting: #26
KO returns: #19
Punt return defense: #23

Field goals - Couto #16 (1.4/g; .875)

Hopefully our coaches know this too.

Now; for the worst news -- UGA Defense Rankings:

Rush Defense #32
Pass Defense #5
Total Defense #6
Scoring Defense #1

Without this D they could easily be 3-2 right now.

I've watched them 3 or 4 times this year and they basically look like a carbon copy of us last year except with luck on their side.

Obviously I'm bored - Here's the total offense rankings for UGA opponents to date:

S. Carolina #64
Ole Miss #99
UAB #106
Colorado #109

UT is #17 btw.

Okay; last one - Scoring Offense of UGA opponents. Obviously UGA D has something to do with the low #'s but they haven't exactly played major offensive threat teams:

S. Carolina #80
UAB #108
Ole Miss #111
Colorado #114

Interesting that the two worst offensive opponents they faced (statistically) put up the most points against them and were within a score of beating them.

UT is #24 BTW

Well, that settles it then. We're done for.
