The Vandy Game Will Prove...

Franklin has beaten four traditional SEC heavyweights in Auburn, UT, UGA and Fla, but he beat them when they all four were either terrible or crippled. He has yet to beat a good SEC team. UGA is probably the best win out of those four and most of that team was injured and they gift wrapped the game in the 4th quarter with turnovers.

I'll give Jimmy Frank credit for one thing. He has taken advantage of bad SEC teams unlike the other Vandy coaches that hardly ever could.

exactly. that dog is all bark and no bite.

.... that James Franklin has coached up and improved his team signicantly better than Butch has his. I just don't see any way around it. Florida absolutely embarrassed us earlier this year and I believe UT would lose to Florida today, no matter where the game was played .... and Franklin just went to the swamp and kicked the crap out of them.

He beat a UGA team that UT couldn't and he beat a Florida team that dominated UT earlier in the season. Vandy's a better coached, better developed team than UT right now and I'm afraid they come into Neyland 2 weeks from now and embarrass us badly for the 2nd year in a row.

They beat a crippled UGA team that UT let off the mat. If Pig doesn't fumble, UT has a chance to win that one. Fla isn't the same team they were when UT played them. Not even close. They are a MASH unit right now. UT beat USCjr. Vandy got hammered by USCjr.

If Vandy had played Bama, Mizzou and Auburn 3 weeks straight they would've had the same results. They got hammered by Mizzou just like UT and would've gotten hammered by Bama and Auburn. Hell, they just got hammered 2 weeks ago by A & M with Manziel leaving midway through the 3rd quarter. They beat Fla today with 183 yards of offense.

Vandy may very well beat UT, but if UT doesn't beat itself, I think UT has a good chance at winning that game. Vandy is no offensive juggernaut. And their weakness is running the football. Our weakness is stopping the run. I like the matchup.

Our team will have to show up ready to play or THAT game could get out hand as well. If so, I think folks on this board may come unglued.

The problem is that Vandy is peaking and we are regressing. Football is a momentum game. Maybe the bye week will do us wonders. But I think we lose.

Teams are setting records against us that have been about a hundred years in the making. We are historically bad. I thought good coaching would help that as the season went on. But we look like a high school team that shouldn't even be on the field with these teams and the season is almost over.

If we lose to Vandy, I can see some recruits getting a little nervous about Butch's, or at least Jancek's coaching ability.

Vandy is getting UGA and Florida at half strength(Florida has been done for a couple weeks) and got UT has played 3 top 10 teams in a row. Let's get some perspective

Vandy is odd this season. They lose to USC, & Ole Miss. Get blown out by Missouri. Beat an injury ridden Florida & UGA. They beat their non conference games and Kentucky, as predicted.

Gentlemen, Vandy is beatable; especially in Knoxville. However; we can't come on to the field half-cocked and expect to win. We have to bring our "A" game, and play just like we did against UGA & USC......

It's funny how we get credit for ALMOST beating UGA, yet when Vandy ACTUALLY DOES beat the exact team, they are injury ridden.

I don't think that's an argument UT wants to start using-we have caught a lot of teams this year who were missing key players. If Shaw stays in the USC game, they probably hold on to win. We played a FL team without Driskel, UGA without Gurley, Missouri without Franklin- Bottom line is, you play who is in front of you.

It's a fact. The injuries mounted after the UT game for UGA. It started during UT game and got worse. Shaw left the game with 5 minutes remaining and it was very much in question still.

I find it telling that no one who has responded to this thread has CBJ on the list. Before the season started VOL fans for the most part where saying CBJ was among the elite in the SEC. His compensation also places him high on this list.

We may got a few breaks along the way but compairing our talent with most part of SEC besides UK is not compairable. About everyone has out recruited us over last 3-4 years and Butch can not get blood out of a turnip. Butch has already has got a signature win with a top 5 recruiting class something the last coach never done.

If and buts. Everybody has injuries. Vandy is playing a RS freshman at QB and Vandy will beat UT handily at Neyland in 2 weeks IMO. Why? Because unlike Butch, Franklin, as much as I utterly despise the punk, is a damn good football coach who can scheme up his team to take advantage of the other teams weaknesses. If UT cannot stop the run, which they can't to biblical proportions, then Vandy will lineup and run the ball down our throats. Get ready, it's about to happen.

James Franklin is arguably the second best coach in the SEC. What he has done at Vandy is beyond unbelievable.

We have to do a better job screening posters. It's bad enough that our fans make unreadable posts but when an opposing fan does its just degrades the board even more.

James Franklin 15 minute flash in the pan fame is getting ready to end.

Vandy is beatable by a good, motivated, focused, well coached team. UT is not remotely any of those things right now. I don't see ANY way that UT beats an improving, confident Vandy team in 2 weeks.

And what will you be saying when UT wins?

Vandy has been crippled with injury's and off the field problems. He is beating teams that have more talent than his team does. He is a great coach, end of story!

The term "Great" is used too often when describing particular players or coaches. If 5-4 is great for you then fine. If great means winning your first game against Florida since the great world war then fine. I wish you luck because Neyland is going to be absolute hell for your Vandy team.

Tn will make a point to embarrass Vandy in two weeks.

Would you like to jump on the Franklin train while you're at it?

I believe KBVol should turn his fan card in......TODAY. He is a closet Vandy/Franklin fan.

One should never take a stance against their family or team.

Yes, every team has injuries. UT beat USCjr, Vandy didn't. Vandy beat UGA, UT didn't. However, if you couldn't see a difference in the Fla team UT played and the Fla team that Vandy played then you are blind.

And we'll see how handily Vandy will beat UT. UT has played a murderer's row of teams lately. The only team that Vandy played that was any good in the last 3 weeks they got curb stomped.

Crippled with injuries? LMAO. The QB has been hurt. That's their main injury. Get in line because UT has had their 1st and 2nd string QB hurt too. Vandy hasn't had near the injuries that Fla or UGA has had. Not even close.

And Jimmy Frank a great coach? Thanks. I needed a good laugh. Please point me to the one good SEC team that he has beaten in 3 years. I'll wait. He has beaten teams that either royally suck or have been crippled by injuries. Period.

What kind of coach Butch Jones is. I know people on here are flipping the ish out over Vandy but I'm looking forward to it. First off unlike the first half our schedule against teams like Oregon, Bama, Auburn, etc, etc we still match up evenly or, in my opinion, even slightly out-talent Vandy as a whole. Next you throw in the off week to give our guys some much needed rest and the coaching staff to make some adjustments I'm expecting a good game.

Getting back to the thread title now; this is the type of game we'll see what kind of coach CBJ is. When two teams match up with comparable talent levels it always comes down to coaching. If CBJ is a good coach we should beat Vandy, if we lose, with comparable horses, than there might be some cause for alarm. That said, CBJ is already 1-0 against Franklin so I'm feeling pretty good :good!:
Is this CBJ first year at Tn??? Is this CJF first year at Candy? Coach vs Coach?

How long will it take Jones to do what Franklin has done?
This Vol squad may have real trouble with Vandy again this year, I'm afraid.
