Review your latest music acquisitions here. New or old music, tell us what you think.

I went on a major downloading binge recently so I'll start it off....

Kings of Leon - Come Around Sundown

I hadn't really payed much attention to KOL previously but this disc changed that (I downloaded the whole catalog after hearing this one). It's easy to listen to and breeds an instant familiarity that makes it seem like I've known them all along.

Mumford & Sons - Sigh No More

An alternative folksy/bluegrass sound that's upbeat and melodic. Struggling for words to describe it, but like it enough to give it a regular listen.

Robert Cray - Strong Persuader

I had this old (1986) disc in my collection years ago and somehow misplaced it. All I can say is that it sounds as good today as it did then. While technically classified as blues, it'll keep you toe tapping with great horns and a searing guitar. Simply a great album.

Downloaded this after hearing a little bit off Pandora. I was hoping for some djenty sounding stuff like Veil of Maya but this sounds like Origin with a typical deathcore vocalist.

Thought this was a huge step forward for Slug and MURS. Picking up Aesop to lay down the beats was the X factor. This is a sick hip hop record from start to finish.

Heart - Red Velvet Car

I haven't listened to Heart in years but it's obvious the Wilson sisters have figured out the formula for success and continue to follow it. Full of ballads and solid rock, I enjoyed this disc.

Always liked Murs stuff with 9th more than the first two in this series but this one was definitely a step up.

Just found Maquise Knox recently and have been listening to this album a lot lately. He's only 18 now and recorded much of the album 2 years ago at 16 but you'd never know it listening to him sing. Overall just a really solid blues album. And my personal favorite part about him:

All but one of the tracks on Man Child were penned by Marquise, and most of them were written in the studio, on-the-fly, a skill he learned at least partially by one of Marquise's main heroes, Henry Townsend.

Lee Ritenour and Guests - 6 String Theory

If you like guitars, you'll love this disc. Collaborative effort albums don't always live up to the hype. 6 String Theory doesn't have that problem with a list of performers that cross genre boundaries. This disc has hints of rock, country, blues and jazz and they all work.

01. Lay It Down (feat. John Scofield)
02. Am I Wrong (feat. Keb' Mo' And Taj Mahal)
03. L.P. (For Les Paul) (feat. Pat Martino, And Joey DeFrancesco)
04. Give Me One Reason (feat. Joe Bonamassa And Robert Cray)
05. "68" (feat. Steve Lukather, Neal Schon, And Slash)
06. In Your Dreams (feat. Steve Lukather, And Neal Schon)
07. My One and Only Love (feat. George Benson)
08. Moon River (feat. George Benson And Joey DeFrancesco)
09. Why I Sing the Blues (feat. B.B. King, Vince Gill, Keb' Mo', Johnny Lang)
10. Daddy Longlicks (feat. Joe Robinson)
11. Shape of My Heart (feat. Steve Lukather, And Andy McKee)
12. Drifting (feat. Andy McKee)
13. Freeway Jam (feat. Mike Stern, Tomoyasu Hotei)
14. Fives (feat. Guthrie Govan And Tal Wilkenfeld)
15. Caprices, Op. 20, No. 2 and 7 (feat. Shon Boublil)

Get it. You'll be glad you did.

One of my favorites by Beck is the live album he did with Jan Hammer.
