i know we have south carolina first, and we need to taker care of business agaisnt sos.

but this season comes down imo to the game vs notre dame.

if we lose that game, (like everyone thinks and hopes but us) then then we drop out of the ranks for the rest of the season. we are finished. maybe if we will have coaching changes.

but if there is one thing the vols can do to help salvage the season and the next few years of tenn football, it is go to south bend and beat the irish.

why i say that, is, first of all, everyone thinks notre dame finishes and wins out because that game against usc. they are supposed to be entering their glory years with charlie weis. everything seems to go right for them now. if the vols go down there w/ nothing going for them, and they upset the irish in the national spotlight, i guarantee they finsih the rest of the season unbeaten and have great year next year.

the reason i say that is, sometimes teams have seasons where they are primed contenders and all of a sudden they ahve a barley above average year. it seems like they have a busted seson. (like the vols now) but the one thing that pics them back up is the huge upset when nothing is going their way.

come on vols fans, nothing is going our way now. we can all cry for the coaches head on a tray, or we can keep pulling fo the vols never to quit.

if we beat notre dame, this will prove that our team refuses to quit. that they just wont give up. not matter how much crap luck they have, no matter how much media hatred they have, they just keep playing and get a big win. i bet if we beat nd, we are all of a sudden back on our feet, and i would have confidence. it tells you a lot about a team that wont roll over and die.

lets look at nd last year. bad year. losing left and right. o look they beat us in knoxville. suddenly this team is a team to contend with. i know all of you credit that to charlie weis, but i know the effect it had on their fans. they went from dead and quiet, to loud and ready for football. that loss gave them confidence in their team. i bet if they quit and lost that game, then this would not be as good a year for them.

my favorite example is 2001 ohio state. they were having a miserable year. 5-5 going into the last game of the season against powerful 9-1 michigan, who was playing for the sugar bowl that year. every thing was bad, but they went to ann arbor, refused to give in and won that game. they could have easily lost but they kept playing every down. the bat michigan on pure will. this bought up the spirits of the team, the coaching staff, and the large fan pool. i have never seen them so overjoyed about 6-5 season. they pulled themselves out of the gutter. that win saved their season and they had confidence in their team.

and i guarantee that it was that, that win over michigan, that boosted them to the 2002 national title. if not for that 2001 game against michigan, they just fall to 5-6 and out of the college football picture altogether.

sometimes you need a big game to pick you back up when you are down.

this time, the vols are in need of one more then ever.

as vols fans, we can just whine about randy sanders and phillip fulmer and not scoring. that is for the offseason. during the seaosn though we need to continue to push for the vols, to keep on fighting, to keep going.

and i am not overlooking steve spurrier, i am tryign to wake up the volunteer world who has just basicly given up on the team becaues we couldn't beat UNDEFEATED alabama.

wake up guys, when you are 3-3, its time to spoil someone elses season, and the irish are on a beline for the bcs.

lets pull together and lets fight, even if we lose, just keep fighting.

Go Vols

I think beating the Irish is very possible. I even think UT may score 3 TDs on them. They will have the worst defense we will play all year.

But we got to get the ball rolling against USC on Saturday

Is that the same defense that USC struggled against?

the irish have an offense though. lets hope our secondary is ready.

Thats what is gonna make it a great game. Both strenghts will be on the field at the same time. Ditto on both teams weaknesses.

An offense CAN (key word) improve from one game to the next. It takes several games for a defense to come around. I like the VOLS from this standpoint.

And I'd stack up our defense against anybody in the country.

Struggled? They scored what was it, 34 points against them? Including, marching the field on them the last drive of the game.

Yeah that's right. 34 to 31. I just don't think that we have a chance against ND. When I was thinking they had a good D, I meant they played the number 1 team in the country and almost beat them. Played it close.

ND's offense is going to get some stuff on our D. We won't sack Quinn much because he doesn't hold the ball long enough.

And we all know what our offense is capable of.

ND will beat us, maybe not destroy us but they will beat us, they will be one of the best teams in the nation next year, so I wouldnt hold my breath for that one. Just tell me what out of this football team you have seen this year that gives you hope that our offense will magically come alive in South Bend. Sorry I just dont see it. I will still be rooting for my team and hoping they win, but this offense is just too miserable for me to think that they will just turn the switch. Charlie Weiss out gameplanned Pete Carrol, he will have no problem doing that to Fulmer.

Scoring Offense: 105th
Rushing Offense: 105th
Total Offense: 94th
Penalties per game: 106th

i think next year could be easier then it seems just because we get uf lsu and ua at home. we can beat uf. bammer loses a whole bunch of people on both sides of the ball. georgia will be w/out shockley.

and for offense, dont be surprised if they arent terrible. it helps to return 9 starters.

Good Grief, get off your rose colored glasses (?orange colored?) and see the real picture if changes are not made on the offensive staff. You must have thought that Wade Houston was going to have us in the NCAA final four in his last year as BB coach!! :yuck:
