I must apologize for not doing the postgame report on Wednesday. I had a couple unexpected things happen on Wednesday (nothing serious at all) and had to attend to them right after the game. By the time I got on the computer around midnight, I had some homework to take care of and these last two to three days have been incredibly hectic and busy for me. So I apologize for not being on the board a couple days. Let's get back to it.

1. This was a game of little consequence for Tennessee. South Carolina had little shot of winning this game and Tennessee got a nice tune up for the big game Tuesday against Florida.

2. The defense got back where it needed to be after an abysmal performance on Wednesday. They did a much better job packing the paint and guarding off ball today.

3. Armani Moore attacking the basket was very nice to see and I hope he continues to develop that. If he can give that weapon for the Vols against Florida, that would help crack their defense.

4. The defensive rebounding effort tonight wasn't where it needed to be. That can't happen against Florida. They will rip that apart.

5. 7-16 from the three point line is literally perfect for Tennessee. They need to hover around that 15 mark and not lose sight of attacking the paint.

6. Tennessee has 10 steals and 5 blocks tonight, a very active performance for the Vols on defense. I saw a little more aggressiveness from the defense to force impact plays. This team should be allowed to do that.

7. Bernard King Player of the Game: I'm really, really, really going to miss Jordan McRae.

8. If Antonio Barton does not find his three point shot, UT is in trouble. He's the only other threat besides McRae that can stretch the D, and he's completely lost right now.

9. Tennessee needs to make sure they attack Florida's press, because they didn't tonight and it wasn't pretty. Don't be afraid to get buckets off that. Make the defense adjust to you.

10. A win that doesn't matter, but it's nice to get that win. The alternative would have been apocryphal. Tennessee can have a season defining win Tuesday against a top five team and really make a statement. Can they do it? It will be tough. If they attack the basket and defend, they will have a shot.

Go Vols!!! :hi:

It was good to see us come out strong to start the game. Sometimes this team comes out like they wanted to be somewhere else.

In complete honesty, we hooked the game up to the TV through the computer and for some reason it was an awful, awful feed and I could barely see ****. My postgame would have contained very little details

So what is your gut feeling on coach Martin ZJC? Is he gonna be a winner here for a long time or is his orange flame gonna be put out? What in the world are we gonna do without Mcrae next year? Our offense is challenged with him, what are we gonna do without him? I don't see anyone on this roster that is a go to man on the offensive end. I don't see anyone developing into that person either. Just hope that someone fills that void I guess.

I don't believe Martin is the answer and I believe he will be fired at the end of 2015.

Then why wait until 2015? All that does is set our program back another 2-3 years when they could let him go the end of this season, pay his $1.9M buyout and get started with a new coach

Because if/when he makes the tournament this year, no decent coach will come here after seeing a tournament coach get fired right after. This program is not a Duke or Kansas or Kentucky. We can't just pick and choose the coaches to come here.

I have been thinking that if we miss the tournament this season he is gone after this year. It is starting to look more and more like this team may get in the tournament as a 9-12 seed, which means he still has a job after this season.

If we have a bad season next year (meaning, at or near a .500 record or worse), I agree with you that he will be gone.

Martin seems a like a class individual whom I wish nothing but the best. Indeed, he has had some good moments while here, but this has been counterbalanced by the fact that his teams have consistently been inconsistent and they wait too late in the season to make the necessary run to make the tournament.

Yes, but you will have to give him extension if you don't fire him after this year. You can't set him up as a lame duck coach. You would basically be giving him the tools to fail. Either extend him or fire him now.

Probably getting ahead of myself, but if he is retained after this year, then I consider it a success if he makes the NIT next year.

We don't have to be a Duke, Kansas or UK to get a quality coach. Case in point, VCU, Wichita St. , just to mention a couple. And, we are not going to make the tourney this year. The best coach we could hire lives right here in Knoxville. :):)

Happy to have the win.

BUT, I realize that this is the definition of a mediocre team. There is nothing that we do well consistently well.

Yep. Today, during the game, at some times they looked like a top 20 team and other times a bottom dweller.

If you can't recruit or coach'em up what do you think his chances are?
