I've seen promos for this it looks authentic for the time period it's set in, and clothes are topnotch.
Maybe WGN wants to get in the league of USA with kickass tv shows.

This debuts next Sunday, and quite freakin original.
While witchcraft has been used in tv shows before including possibly most famous Charmed or Bewitched I don't recall one that takes place in Salem in the time of the Salem witch trials.

yep! From my understanding "WGN America" as I think its called does want to become a network along the lines of TNT, USA etc..

Just a month or so ago they grabbed the syndication rights to CBS's Elementary!

Here is an article on WGN's future!
Tribune CEO Sketches New Course for Cabler WGN America

Tribune CEO Sketches New Course for Cabler WGN America

Company to invest in original series, like historical dramas 'Salem' and 'Manhattan'

WGN America may be thought of most often as a “superstation,” one of those regionally important TV-stations whose programming reaches across the nation, But if Tribune CEO Peter Liguori has his way, the cabler will be thought of more like one of his old stomping grounds: FX

Liguori, who joined Tribune as president and CEO in January, described a process currently underway to bring new programming to WGN America that would make the station of more value to audiences, advertisers and video distributors. “Salem”, a historical drama based on the witch trials of this nation’s colonial era,, is expected to debut in the third or fourth quarter of 2014. Also in development is “Manhattan” another historical series centered around the Manhattan Project.

Liguori hoped to have four 13-episode series running on WGN America so that the network would have something original on 52 weeks a year.

“The great hope is we can be a very solid general-entertainment network,” the exec said, speaking at NYC Television Week, an industry conference. WGN American is currently in about 65 million homes, he said, and Tribune “would like to see it fully distributed. We need to provide value to the cable distributor. It is all a matter of intelligently investing in programming.”

Liguori also spoke of the heft the pending $2.725 billion acquisition by Tribune of Local TV Holdings, LLC’s 19 stations would give the company in the marketplace. With those stations under its aegis, Tribune would be the largest owner of Fox-affiliated TV stations, he said, and is already the biggest owner of CW-affiliated stations.

Stephen Lang Joins WGN America’s ‘Salem’

Stephen Lang Joins WGN America’s ‘Salem’

Stephen Lang (Avatar) has been tapped for a recurring role on WGN America‘s drama series Salem.
Set in the volatile world of 17th century Massachusetts, it explores what really fueled the town’s infamous witch trials and centers on Mary Sibley (Janet Montgomery), the beautiful, ruthless but vulnerable wife of the ancient, ailing but very wealthy George Sibley (Michael Mulheren), one of Salem’s town Selectmen. Innovative Artists-repped Lang will play Increase Mather, an old-line, hard-core Puritan who led the way across the ocean to the Promised Land in the late 1600s. Intellectually, spiritually and politically, he’s the most influential man in the country — and the most feared. “Stephen Lang is a tremendous actor armed with an almost frightening knowledge of history and psychology — perfect for our twisted Salem, where Increase Mather is a man driven to monstrous deeds by the intensity of his convictions; and a loving father who torments his son precisely out of love,” said co-creators, executive producers and writers Brannon Braga and Adam Simon. “Lang is finding every layer of this character and showing us a few we didn’t even realize were there. A great addition to a great cast.” Lang is set to reprise his role as Colonel Quaritch in James Cameron’s Avatar sequels. His TV credits include Fox’s Terra Nova and HBO docu Love, Marilyn. Salem debuts at 10 PM Sunday.

A woman is in charge of this town.

Next episode has creepy dolls moving, why a human has the head of a pig on I don't understand of maybe that's the black magic of the witch having altered a human.

WGN America’s ‘Salem’ Renewed For Second Season
WGN America’s ‘Salem’ Renewed For Second Season

Following a strong launch, WGN America‘s first original scripted drama has been picked up for a second season three episodes into its freshman run. The 13-episode second season of Salem, from creators Brannon Braga and Adam Simon and Fox 21, will begin production later this year for a 2015 debut. Despite WGN only covering 62% of the country with a single feed, Salem‘s April 20 premiere averaged an impressive 3.4 million total viewers and 1.5 million adults 18-49 in Live+7. Through its first two telecasts in Live+3 viewing, Salem has logged nearly 1.7 million total viewers and 806,000 among Adults 18-49, a 776% increase over the network’s Adults 18-49 season-to-date average on Sundays at 10 PM ET. “At WGN America, we are committed to delivering compelling, brand-defining programming rich with fascinating characters, and Salem has done just that,” said WGN America President Matt Cherniss. Starring Janet Montgomery, Shane West, Seth Gabel, Xander Berkeley, Ashley Madekwe, Tamzin Merchant, Elise Eberle and Iddo Goldberg, Salem re-imagines the infamous 17th century witch trials in the Massachusetts town. Braga and Simon executive produce with Jeff Kwatinetz and Josh Barry of Prospect Park and David Von Ancken.

It's been interesting so far, is the first season only 5 episodes long? Also the chick playing Mary Sibley is easy on the eyes.

I do wonder if what we saw of Mary in the mirror is her true form which if it is is hideous.

Mary the main villain
Looks like she has all black eyes
Like black queen (Selene) she's topnotch with the black hair and black clothes look.
