My A/C just crapped out. It's 93 degrees outside and 85 and climbing inside.

I'm sitting here with a fan blowing on me and my dog is panting. How did I make as a kid without A/C?

Just smoke weed and lay around all day.

We're spoiled, no doubt. I was actually thinking the same thing this week when I walked out of the 90-degree+ heat and into my air conditioned house.

Good luck on getting yours fixed. I'm guessing the repair folks are pretty busy this time of year.

I'm sure it's gonna be a $$$ call for repair. It's ok though, part of owning a home.

Not sure if other places do it, but here where I live in Georgia if you need a new system, the electric company will put you one in and add so much to your bill a month to pay for it.

Attic fans if you are lucky enough to live where it cools down at night. Sure wouldn't work here in the southern part of hell.

1) Buy some green bottle Gold Bond
2) apply to tackle
3) direct fan up shorts
4) be transported to the Alps

If your balls feel cool, you feel cool.

First thing I'd check is the air filter and make sure it's clean. If it's dirty the system may be frozen. You have to set the air to off and turn the fan to "ON". Let it run for about 4 hours.

Second thing I'd do is walk out to the condenser tower outside and look at the manufacturer date. It's not hard to find. If it's anywhere near 8 to 10 years it's time to replace if you can afford it.

Another heat wave coming according to the NWS - hope you get it fixed soon OP -- had that happen on a 4th of July weekend about 10 years ago and no repairmen available

Spoiled no doubt... I went hiking the other day in red rock national park and it was about 105. As I was overlooking LV I wondered why in the hell people stopped here when going west when I know they didn't have AC

After burning up a hair drier melting ice I got the unit working again and made it through the night. I can't get anyone to come out until Monday afternoon, so I'll just nurse it along until then.

I've been turning it off every now and then for an hour or two and leaving the fan running to keep the ice melted off. Its lasted 9 years and is a contractor model and I was hoping to get a few more years out of it. The next time it craps out, I'll replace it.

Call Chancey & Reynolds if you're in Knoxville area.

Especially if you need a new unit. I did the TVA Energyrite program about 18 months ago. I live in West Knox County. After checking out all of the major HVAC companies from Strawberry Plains to Lenoir City to Oak Ridge to Maryville and all points inbetween. Even outliers like Kingston and Sweetwater.

I needed a total new system, including ductwork, up and down. They are large enough they have their own design office & warehouse with breakmetal and cutting machines to make industrial grade plenum installations. Yet, they have over a dozen trucks running around doing residential service and installations. Even a dedicated supervisor traveling site to site as needed to troubleshoot or bring needed parts. Truly the best HVAC co. around, and my installation was at least 15% cheaper than any of the other eight comparable outdoor compressor/indoor airhandler/filter/total ductwork/programmable thermostat quotes. Settled on them and have no regrets.
