So, as I was leaving West Town Mall in Knoxville around 1 pm today, I took the contents out of my pocket searching for my car keys and placed my wallet (with about $200 in cash, a credit card and a debit card) on the hood of my car and like an idiot drove off and left it there in the middle of the parking lot. When I went back to look for it, I found nothing. However, a really nice and honest guy named Josh just dropped off my wallet at my home. Josh insisted that I count the cash in front of him... it was all there with the cards too. I live in West Hills and he told me that he lives off of Northshore Drive, so it wasn't on his way home. I swear that I tried to give him $20 for his trouble but he wouldn't take it. This is one of the nicest things that a stranger has ever done for me. It makes me want to do something nice for a stranger right now too... and just makes me feel better about human nature in general.

I know... cool story, bro! If you have any similar experiences with strangers doing especially kind things for you, I would like to read them

Not to toot my own horn but one time when I was working fast food an old lady came in and left a bank bag full of cash on the counter before leaving. I picked it up and opened it...there was probably close to 2k in cash in this bag. I gave it to my boss and told him what happened. Couple days later she comes in and asks if she'd left it there. When she sees it she immediately bursts into tears. She was so happy. It was all the money she had left in the world and she thought she had lost it

When both my boys were little, we never had enough money. Always a struggle, ya know.

One day I went in to pay for my $3 worth of gas (that was a few days worth back then). In the floor was a $100.00 bill, wadded up like it fell outta someone's pocket. I picked it up and put it on the counter and said, "Somebody's gonna be looking for that." I didn't think twice about what to do.

I told my mom about it. She mentioned it to a coworker and said "They really could have used that money." And the coworker said "I hope that wasn't God's way of trying to help them." 😂😂😂

Several years ago I was going to Kroger and I always take a cart from the parking lot in with me to use. This particular time there was a purse in the area where people put their small children to ride. I took the purse into the store and gave it to a young lady at the customer service counter and told her that when the lady comes in here looking for it to give it to her. She asked if there was any money in the purse and I told her I don’t know, I didn’t look in her purse. Went back in there a few days later and the same young lady was working at customer service. I asked if the lady came to get her purse and she said yes, she came in there about five minutes after I dropped it off. Then she said did you know there was six hundred dollars in there. I laughed and said I told you I didn’t look in the purse. 🙂

Couple days ago I found a wallet at the West Town mall. When I went to look for ID I noticed the guy had BUTCH PLEASE and BRICK BY BRICK embroidered on the wallet. I had to see for myself what this gump looked like so I offered to drive it to his house. I made him count the money and he even offered me some but I refused, since I had already peed all over the wallet.

I have been on both sides of this fence. I once had somebody break into my locker at the gym, steal one credit card from my billfold and attempted to charge over $3,000 on it at a local Best Buy store.

However, many years before, on Halloween night, I received a call from the police department that someone had turned in my wallet at a local strip mall; they gave me instructions on whom to contact there to pick it up. I was unaware that I had even dropped it, but no cash or credit cards had been taken.

When I was a kid, we went to visit family up in Michigan and drove into Detroit to catch a Tigers game at the old Tiger Stadium. My mom lost here wallet out of her purse in there and we didn't know it till much later. Eventually, after we were back home, a package showed up in the mail with Mom's wallet in it. They had taken out enough money to cover the postage but everything else was there. As I recall, it was a lady on the cleaning crew that found it. As a kid, whether I knew it or not at the time, it was a good lesson in humaning.

I went through the line at ingles the other day, and someone before me had left their credit card sticking in the card machine. I gave it to the cashier.

My dad and his friend hunt ginseng up in Kentucky. Several years ago they were miles back in the mountains on 4 wheelers, and came upon a crashed airplane. Apparently the fog had caused the guy to misjudge, and he hit some trees and it slung him out killing him. They found his body, and my dad drove back towards civilization to get a signal and call the sheriff. He actually waited for him, and rode him up to the spot. The sheriff got the guys wallet to check his id, and was shocked to find thousands of dollars. I think it was over $7,000, but dad said he was more shocked they didn't even check his wallet, or take the money. Pilot was in a small plane by himself from south Carolina.

How do you put the wallet on the hood and drive off and not notice it, it's on the hood?! Do you mean you left it on the roof or the trunk lid?

I've never had enough in my wallet or on a credit card to be worth anyone's trouble. lol.

But, I tell this story only because it was a bit entertaining to me during and after. If you have ever been in downtown ATL (I'm not sure the size of the city matters, except down town ATL and immediate areas can be intimidating), then you know how things can be. Used to love going to eat at Benihana's, then around the corner, up International Blvd past Nick's, to a place across the street that has the best desserts I have ever seen in my life. Piano bar street level, restaurant upstairs. Name escapes me, but the Peachtree Plaza Hotel was on up to top of hill. would have occasional date at Benihana then dessert. Was at dessert bar, and went up and 4 obvious homeless guys were at a table enjoying full dinner, getting waited on, etc. Thought it was pretty cool, whoever took them up and set it up for them to have a nice meal and service. And not McDonalds. This was a upscale joint. Someone laid out some bank roll on those 4. Just dessert, coffee, and tip for 2 would run me upwards of $30.

The entertaining part was on the walk back down the hill to the car, and a guy jumps out from behind a dumpster behind Nick's. Scared the crap out of me. (Hope my date didn't notice). Was raising money to join the Salvation Army and needed $5. That was so original, I gave him $10, and told him it doesn't cost anything to join the Salvation Army but go enjoy whatever it was he was fixing to drink up. I still get a kick out of that "fundraising" line.

Edit: I guess I've not been to downtown longer than I thought. Benihana is still in same place. Nick's used to be on the corner in the building that appears to now be Tin Lizzy's Cantina. Apparently it died long ago. And the other place that had the great desserts was in the building abutting International garage and appears to be Hooters or more likely the Amalfi Pizza, directly accross from Hard Rock.....Wait for it...I found it in street view. Daileys !!!!! Only it changed ownership a few times over the years and is now closed. Too bad it went down hill. 30 years ago it was a downtown icon.

Pay it forward.

Yeah, should have offered to buy the guy a beer.

Somewhat similar story, I somehow dropped my wallet at a wu tang clan concert in a sketchy as hell club in a sketchy as hell part of town and someone found it and gave it to a cop sitting outside the club, who returned it to me.

Not surprising. Ol Dirty Bastard always set a high standard of honor and good citizenship. After all, Wu-Tang was for the children.

Completely forgot about turning in a nice pair of headphones a couple of weeks ago at the ymca I go to. I knew who’s they were(didn’t know the person), but they left before I could catch them. Anyhoo,I see the guy today and I believe his two boys shooting basketball. It clicks in my mind, “hey that is the guy”. I ask if he picked up his headphones at the front desk and he said “no I thought someone had probably took them.”

He gave me a thumbs up after picking up his headphones.
