A coach who has participated in his fair share of them once told me a regional final is the most pressure packed game you can play in, because of the difference in winning and losing. If you win, you've made it to the sport's grandest stage. If you lose, you've simply had a good season. While I think Tennessee's history may help here, due to the fact there was immense pressure to break through the Sweet 16 barrier, you can't discount that Michigan State does have some advantage from having been at this point before. That said, Tennessee wins a close.

Chism: "We're livin' it up right now."
Scheyer: "We'll enjoy the wins when the season is over; right now is the time to re-focus."

Chism was still on the court after the biggest win in program history when he said that. He has today to re-focus. I wouldn't worry.

Hat, what do you think about MSU's rebounding edge? We had a tough time with a good rebounding team in the first round. Do we have reason to think this will be different?

If we come ready to go, we can be competitive enough on the boards to keep that from beating us. If not, they'll get annihilated on the glass. State gets after that aspect of the game as well as anyone in the country.

Tennessee has a +6.3 rebounding margin in the tournament so far... Counting the end of the season and the tourney, we've been rebounding much better as of late.

I kinda would rather we play MSU rather than NI. It's not hard to be up for a team like that. We've got the monkey off our back. We've beat 3 of the top teams in the nation this yr. We'll be ready to rock and roll. Go Vols.

I would be more worried about this if we had a younger team.

I'm not afraid because of our leadership (Chism, Prince, Maze). I don't think they will let the moment get the best of them. The whole team has seemed so focused, yet loose throughout this whole tournament. It seems like they are really enjoying playing together and are looking forward to getting back out there and doing it again.

I hope last night lead to the realization that if Chism/Prince/Williams play together, we can dominate the paint on just about anyone out there. That also mitigates the lack of a talented shooter (more FB points) and increases the defensive effectiveness. We are big, fast and athletic up top. Kick butt and take names!!

Somehow, I think this game is going to be very tough. I also think we'll have to have a better perimeter game. We've been dominant down low for the last two games (Ohio and OSU), but we're not going to be able to dominate MSU down low.

That's what concerns me...MSU has "been there, done that".

Just finished a 600 mile roadtrip listening to Sirius radio the entire way. Most all the talking heads predict an even game with MSU winning due to Izzo in game coaching expertise. Gottlieb, Kusilias (sp?), Kiper, some guy on Maddog that sounds like Limbaugh and some guy named Larry from Sporting News Radio. Adrian Branch called it for UT and Jay Bilas hedged.

Hat, why do you think Pearl is just now finding out that all the minutes McBee was getting earlier in the year should have been going to Bone? I know Bone was ineligible for close to half the year, but having played against Bone in high school and watching my younger brother play McBee, I've thought that Bone should have been playing McBee's minutes all along. Bone is a much more solid defender and gives you more on offense with not only shooting but his ball control.

He played McBee until it became obvious he couldn't do anything of substance. Bone was the next option. I'd almost always play the better defender when deciding between two players.
