These stupid penalties are going to come back to haunt us.

Not sure why this continues to be a problem, well coached teams improve as the season progresses, eliminate penalties, improves execution, this was a good, but nowhere near great Vanderbilt team, not close to a significant bowl game, we were futzing around with last game of the season, glad our schedule did not include Texas, A&M, Ole Miss, South Carolins or LSU, 10-2 may be Heupel's ceiling in this conference, which was ok two years ago, should be ok this season, but the vast areas where this team could improve are concerning

I’m not sure if you’re trolling or what? Not many expected this team to be 10-2 and in the playoffs before the season started. Also, look around the NCAA, there are teams with a lot more talent doing a lot worse. Just another “fan” who can’t wait to see us lose so you can say “told you so.”

Mighty Ole Miss who lost to UK and Auburn is the model of consistency and perfect execution huh

One of the roughing the passer penalties against us was one of the worst calls I’ve ever seen. That said, the false start penalties have got to stop. They are drive killers. Then Campbell hitting a defenseless player after the play was just so stupid. Good teams just don’t make these mental errors at the rate we do

Heupel’s teams lack discipline.
Maybe we should bring in Brian kelly so he could scream at them all the time. One of UCF’s players asked what they liked best about CJH coaching and he said. “With coach we can let them hang.” You are going to have a few extra penalties with his style.

FOUR YEAR PLAN
Year 1, improved offense greatly
Year 2, Joe, improved Defense goodly
Year 3, Nico work in progress, Defense too greatly
Year 4, improve penalties (hopefully) and everything comes together.

Being undisciplined will result in losses against good football teams. TN is one of highest penalized teams in the NCAA and the tied with Bama for the most penalized in the SEC.

Yes they commit a lot of penalties, but everyone should be enjoying the fact this team handled business, an other than the penalties looked good doing it.. Vandy had put a scare in just about everyone..

Hard to argue that. Penalties is an area that definitely needs to be better. Particularly the unsportsmanlike penalties. Those are 100% discipline issues.

I can understand some illegal procedure/false starts in a road game in a loud stadium, every team does that. Holding could be better also, but I believe the "can be called on any play" saying for the most part. But unsportsmanlike is or should be very correctable.

This is the one thing about Heup's teams that makes me crazy. Cut those penalties in half and think of how much better this team is.

To be fair, a couple of those penalties were BS. That Vandy player went into the neutral zone several times and they only caught it once but caught our false start twice because of it. I do think we get to ansy on defense and get into that neutral zone

It's likely to get us eliminated early in the playoffs. Playing Vandy and lower tier teams is something we can muddle through even with penalties. In the playoffs, it will be crippling. That I line jumping off sides is so bad that Vandy used it intentionally.......and it worked. Don't even get me started on my s***** penalty calls we've been getting. It's bad enough when you're playing against inept referees. But to then add our own stupid mistakes on top of that is season ending. I personally believe that the only solution to bad referees is to limit the number of penalties that are referee can call during a game. That or have standby referees. If a coach feels like a referee is doing a bad enough job, he should be able to request that the referee be replaced mid game.

I listened to Volquest, Doug Matthew's, and some others while walking and driving today. While they are concerned to some extent, several said it's been common since H has been here don't think its a lack of discipline but the intensity level played.

Lack of discipline has been an issue since Heupels been here. It’s not going to just resolve itself. Fixing will require recognizing the problem and being intentional about fixing.

we tackle a UGA player his helmet comes off, no hand to facemask its a 15 yard penalty.
Vandy player tackles UT player his helmet comes off, no hand to facemask its not a 15 yard penalty.
Vs UGA we get tackled with hand on the name bar close but below collar no penalty for horse collar
Vs Vandy we tackle a player with hand on name bar close but below collar and its a 15 yard penalty for horse collar
