Linebacker A.J. Johnson is as sure a thing as there is on Tennessee's defense.

So the Volunteers are giving the All-SEC senior's supporting cast of plenty looks this preseason.

Linebackers coach Tommy Thigpen, the impressive recruiter and former Auburn and North Carolina assistant, is shaping a young unit this August as Tennessee looks to solidify the position beyond Johnson, the Vols' top tackler in 2012 and 2013.

JRM is going to be good. It's really going to help having that type of speed, explosiveness an acceleration on the second level of the D.

I hope they move Maggitt back to OLB, and let Jakob Johnson, Hendrix and Barnett hold down the DE spot opposite of Vereen (Henderson behind Vareen). I think he'll do more damage as a LB than a DE.

We used to have one of the most intimidating front seven in all of college football for years and years. Let's hope this is the return of that era

Butch told me to tell you that your linebacker knowledge is invaluable.
