UT FOURTH NATIONALLY IN RUSH DEFENSE
Tennessee ranks first in the Southeastern Conference and fourth nationally with a rushing defense that allows an average of just 80.9 yards per game.

The Vols' opponents are averaging just 2.5 yards per rush this season. In addition, John Chavis' unit has allowed just three rushing plays of 20 yards or longer.


This will really be put to the test with DeAngelo Williams coming to The Hill this weekend :scare:

Let's hope we don't repeat 1996 :banghead:

#%&@ Memphis and #%&@ Tiger High (which I went to school and it was the worst of four colleges I attended).

You have to understand Memphis racism to understand Memphis bb.

You see, in order to win the vote, white politicians way back in the 50s knew blacks had no AC so they built bunches of concrete bball courts which were really places where blacks could congregate. Instead, Memphis became a bball haven. There wasn't much room for football and baseball, the black churches had no money for the land, notice how MemphisSU baseball and football suck.

Then along came integration, the Robinson brothers and Larry Finch, Melrose and a state championship. Black basketball took off. They could kick the stew out of the white man right in his own backyard (gym).

Why would the white man let the black man play him in bball?

Simple. memphis white community, with help from the 3 letter agencies, got MLKing killed and they needed some way to slow down the ensuing anger. so they offered to "allow" blck and white schools to play one another. Having played in one of the first integrated games in the South (locked gym, no spectators), this was a thrill.

Not.

But the legacy was born and now we have Memphis as a disproportionate to population haven for black basketball.

I hate the fact that all of you people are showing your a$$es with this thread. I have been a Vol all my life but my degree says the University of Memphis - not tiger high or memphis state. This makes all of you sound like a bunch of Bammers - oh and by the way - there is a UT med Center here VolInsider.

You're right Volracerx, there's a strong scent of racism in this thread that smells exactly like what permeates the Bammers' forums. Many of us -- and I hope most of us -- look at that with disgust. Tennessee, thankfully, didn't dwell on that40 years ago.

Anybody who has spent some time in the Bluff City other than weekend trips to the zoo knows there are great things about our largest city: genuine tree-shaded neighborhoods, a more laid-back approach to life, a more diverse and welcoming society, et al.

In defense of this thread . . . I think the original intent was to talk about the school; not the city. It obviously went off the rails somewhere.

I thought Nashville did. I remember in the late 80's, the Bangles had a hit called, "Walk like an Egyptian." Statistics released that year said Nashville, TN had the worst drivers. The radio stations even wrote a song similar to the Bangles' entitled, "Drive Like a Nashvillian."

Yes!!!

If they forcast snow people just wreck.

I hate memphis cause when they beat us in 96...they made bumper stickers that said 21 in blue and 16 in orange (i think that was the score). Thats all it said, and people still have those faded out stickers on their cars....we get it...good kick return...now move and and quit getting beat by UAB
