This is exactly how I feel about MLB and the Yankees

I love how people portray Scott Boras as the devil as if he holds a gun to the head of the owners and forces them to sign the contracts.

He is just masterful at what he does. Has not heart, soul, or love for the game. He is good at what he does, just ruthless. As long as the Steinbrenners are in charge at NY, he wont be hurting anytime soon.

Exactly. Boras is just doing his job. It isn't his fault the Yankees continue to increase their payroll despite having nothing to show for it. How many offseasons do we have to put up with people telling us the Yankees will be unbeatable?

The Yankeees is a prime example of why I can no longer stand MLB
The thing is, the numbers may have changed, but this is nowhere near a new phenomenon. The Yankees have been pulling this stunt since the days of Reggie Jackson and Catfish Hunter.

I agree about the Yankees, but I think the Braves play it about as straight as you can and still be competitive, which is why I still love MLB. Oh and by the way your avatar has me LMAO.

The bravos were wheeling and dealing all through their 15 year run. Give me a break.

Sure they were as all teams do, but do you really think they're as ridiculous as the Yankees in the obscene salaries and conditions?

No one in mlb is spending like the yabkees, but you can't say the yanks aren't playing it straight. They are just taking their profits and reinvesting it into their company. Everyone acting like it is the worst thing in the world should love the fact that their plan continues to backfire.

Much like the Dallas Cowboys everybody likes seeing a team with a bought all star at most positions you love seeing the money fail to bring home the title. It's chemistry among the roster and fundamentals execution that win titles, not salaries.

Yea, because the yanks and mets are the first teams to ever ask their city for money for a new stadium.

Didn't say they were the only ones. But in regards to the state of the economy, dont think there has ever been a team to spend 450million on 3 players and to ask for that same amount to finish their stadium 3 weeks prior. Just seems extremly lavish and crazy.

I don't think Atlanta has but ya got me there, even though it is ridiculous for a major league team to expect a city to support their policy on outrageous salaries thru the backdoor with few titles considering the roster.

Yea, because the hundreds of jobs created by the new stadium and the millions of dollars created by tax revenue is going to be horrible for NYC

Create hundreds of jobs? Didn't the old stadium have workers too? For the most part, wouldn't they just be making the transition over? Tax revenue may be greater, but they also have a debt in the new stadium. I agree they needed a new stadium, or at least some massive renovations to the old one, but my point is how ruthless the whole thing is....ask for tons of money from the city/taxpayers and turn around and pay the players that. I know its the nature of the beast, but nobody is worth 180 mill, 250 mill, etc to play baseball. As long as they keep paying, it will keep getting worse.

Construction jobs plus employees for the new shops and parking garages equal lots and lots of new jobs

Does the old stadium not have shops and parking garages? I see a small increase in revenue. I could understand it more if it was a totally new team moving to the area, like the Washington Nationals. With the yanks being the yanks, either way they are going to be a max capacity most every game whether it be in the new stadium or the old.

As for player salaries, the yankees dumped like 85 million in payroll for next year, so they really have only marginally increased their payroll.

Yes, there are more shops and garages than before. Also I am assuming the new stadium seats more. To add to it, even for yankee stadium, the new stadium brings more tourists which brings in more hotel and restaurant tax revenue. I would throw increased shopping tax revenue as well. Outsiders spend way more money in a city than a local would.
