I was just looking at the roster the other day and was amazed at how much talent Huepel has been able to recruit the last 2 years. This team is stacked with talent at just about every position. Especially along the defensive line. Now most of the talent is young. Which means that 2025 might be the more likely breakthrough season but man am I excited for this season.

I think we could be the best team in the country if all the young guys can live up to their potential.

All the stars have to aline. 2025 we will be replacing at least 3 offensive lineman, our best 2 starters on the D line, and several key contributors. We need to do this now

Going back and looking at the 2016 roster makes me a little sick. Butch wasted a lot of talent. I do think this team has more front line talent and depth almost everywhere.

This team should go 11-1 regular season. 10-2 is acceptable, but 9-3 is a disappointment.
Tennessee should not lose in Neyland for the next 5+years.

You're only thinking about our roster. Other teams have talent as well

If all teams players live up to potential as do we, we will be about the 10th best team in the country.

This^ the key IMO is if Nico comes out and is a dynamic passer & when its 3rd and 5+ he finds ways to get the 1st down running/scrambling for it like Dobbs, improvising throwing on the run like HH keeping Ds on their heels. We lose Cooper the key to our O-line, we lose Pili & Pierce who I believe will cause so much havoc, our DBs will look great because of this pressure. We will lose Bru who I think is a go to, this is the year and if Nico is 1 of the 2 best QBs in the conference we have the team and a super hard team to prepare for if we are all on the same vibe and clicking. Nico is the key IMO.

One issue we always have to deal with is a front-loaded schedule. With young (and sometimes not so young) teams we haven’t always jelled until later in the year. Last year is a case in point as we started slow against some weak opponents and just look at our record against Florida. Folks mentioned 2016 - that was a weird year. Fulmer used to brag about how we never lost in November but with a homecoming patsy, KY, and Vandy that wasn’t saying much. Hopefully, this team will break out vs NC State with a win, and a win at OK would set us on a path to the playoffs. This year reminds me a bit of how I felt in 1994. We had just lost Shuler but the cupboard was full of potential.

This is what Dobbs4Heisman said in 2016 once season started - (hope this year is better):

Embrassing.

Putrid.

Disgusting.

I can't believe I trusted these guys to improve. I can't believe I thought Butch Jones was anything but a liability. I can't believe I thought Dobbs could pass the ball.

I'd like to apologize to everyone for everything I said over the summer. This team sucks and this QB is terrible.

Hopefully Florida blasts them next week and Butch Jones is fired on the spot.

Great, the kiss of death. A D4H prediction of us being good, now we are screwed. Not to mention you’re a fair weather fan saying it yourself you only root for us when we are good. Please go away

Why is that the key? He’s talking optimistically in the middle of July about our football team and our HC’s efforts on the recruiting trail… it’s not like we forgot that the coach has develop them and come up with a sound gameplan each week. Seems like “on paper” is something that goes without saying, since we haven’t played any games yet.

LOL, loser attitude.......
well that’s an unnecessary thing to say. All he was saying is that we’ve recruited somewhere around tenth best in the nation over the last few years, so if we live up to our potential, and so do the other teams that recruit at a high level, we still should be a playoff team.

Thanks, now I know to roll me eyes at anything he posts.

Fair weather fans are the worst. If you’re not with us when we’re down, we don’t want you with us when we’re up. Dude can go cheer for Georgia.

That 2016 team was undersized at many positions and that led to injuries. The DLine was weak. Butch could never field 2 full size DTs, and a lot of talented DE's got mauled playing in the middle. It was just as bad as Dooley not recruiting enough SEC caliber Olinemen. Butch was recruiting players that would have been Hall of Fame players at Cincy, but got manhandled and hurt in the SEC. Strength and Conditioning appeared to more about something besides strength.

Our present team is better everywhere, except QB (may soon be much better now), RB, and Derrick Barnett, and better coached everywhere.

I agree with the OP but that doesn't necessarily mean that it translates directly into more wins. We are still thin in some places and a lot riding on Nico. Man, the expectations from some for Nico are just crazy.

Trending in the right direction for sure but still some questions to be answered.

Football season can't get here fast enough.

I have always said that 2025 is the year we become a real contender for an NC. We aren’t Bama or Georgia where we can surround a young QB with five stars, and the league just got tougher. I do hope to see some exciting football this year. No blow out losses and perhaps lots of chances like last year.
