This is the result of having less talent than our opponents

According to espn recruiting rankings:

Martin has signed 12 players
2 5*
0 4*
1 3*
7 2*
2 jucos (espn doesn't rate jucos)

I'd rate both juco players 2*. I think that's fair seeing as neither one sniffs the floor.

That's 9 2* players out of 12.

I know espn isn't the best with rankings but if you used 247 or rivals it doesn't look much better. The point is that we are getting what we settled for in recruiting.
Cuonzo MUST do better and it can't come any later than his next commitment.

Not trying to pile on. As a long time hoops fan I want us to get back where we belong.

The talent is definitely an issue, especially when you have two 4* on the bench injured.

I did a breakdown of all the SEC teams a month or so ago in terms of talent(stars)...Tennessee was 7th in the SEC iirc.

cuonzo has a lot to improve in on many areas recruiting being one.

To me I think his recruiting is the biggest problem. I give a pass on first class because he was in a tough spot and we needed bodies.

Other shortcomings can be minimalized if you have talent.

Coaching too. Turnovers is a coaching thing. We consistently have many

Other than Stokes - everyone Q has recruited is not of SEC caliber imo. A lot of mediocre or below talent.

A lot of it is on coaches but a lot of those turnovers aren't from coaching IMO. McRae traveling at half court with nobody around? Hall traveling 2-3 times a game?

That's on the players not coaches IMO.

After this mornings events kind of expected tonights outcome

Its hard to say how are talent is without a full compliment of starters. Missing 2 starters is huge and changes the dynamics.

It's not even the stars at this point in recruiting, this class that's coming in is very solid. He needs to recruit some serviceable point guards/ballhandlers. The first half was pathetic, 11 turnovers against the most vanilla half court pressure from Georgia.

I guess it's an excuse, but injuries have really hurt us this year (men & LV)

Don't y'all think we will be AWESOME next year with Stokes, Maymon & Dobbs??!

No. Martin hasn't impressed. He has utterly failed to recruit a PG, and Landry is a joke. He has wiffed on so many recruits, I fail to believe that Hubbs will ride in on a white horse. He still has to play in this awful system, or lack thereof. Lest we forget that CCM said that a PG is not necessary for his system. Seriously. UT can do better.

The system is "awful" due to having mostly players who don't do what Martin wants them to. Towards the end of the season last year, the players started doing it, and -gasp- they had success. Don't recall people complaining about it then. Do you honestly think Martin is going to recruit a guy that won't do what Martin wants him to? He's not looking for the "best" guys, he's looking for the right ones.

After watching our season so far, you'd think Martin would restate that one! We look like 6 yr olds dribbling up the court!
