Look, I'm not saying "HE" is or isn't coming, but this obsession is going a bit overboard. While he would be a great splash hire let's please come to terms with reality and accept the fact that there are many other capable head coaches out there. We don't know if Tennessee has even offered him a job (or quite frankly is all that interested in him). At this point it's all hear-say (with "sources"). Fedora would be a fine choice, as would Peterson, Strong, Mora, etc. Those guys could potentially make good coaches, and there are plenty of other coaches out there other than them. The point I'm trying to make is that we really need to calm it with some of this obsession. Let UT make the hire and then decide if we accept it or not. All this talk of firing Hart because the rumor is that Gruden didn't attend a meeting to talk about a rumored contract that Tennessee was rumored to offer him is just asinine. :hi:

This board is hilarious though! Let the process work itself out before crapping our collective pants. I get it that this is a critical hire but there are several qualified coaches out there and I am sure that Hart is doing his due diligence.

Nobody on this board is affecting the hiring of Gruden or anybody else in any way, shape, or form. Who cares what anybody is saying we all know its probably bs especially when it's somebody with 6 posts.

The one thing people fail to realize in all of this, we are currently irrelevant. This hire will define us for the next 5+ years, and will either get us a ton of wins, or keep us in the basement of the SEC for a while longer. A "name" is what we need right now, and Gruden is the biggest name we could get. Outside of him, only Fisher or Strong would be name enough to effect recruiting in a positive way. This hire will make or break our program for the foreseeable future, period.

GREAT post! I agree 110%. The only logical explanation i can come up with is UT is still in talks with Gruden as the reason they haven't downplayed these rumors. As soon as he declines, UT needs to release something stating Gruden is not coming so the fanbase can get over it and welcome in our new coach.

These are emotions are simple. VN is made up of all Vol fans minus a handful of admitted fans of other teams and a few trolls. Bama is on top with Saban and as Tennessee fans we are never satisfied with being inferior to Bama, no matter if that does mean even being number 2.

History is doomed to repeat what? TN should not be hiring a guy just because he had one good year!:hi:

Gruden or not....the next coach will have the resources and facilities to grow this program again....les miles, Kevin sumlin, Chris Peterson wasn't homerun hires a short time ago...so let's wait and give Dave Hart the chance to get the right hire, not the quick splash hire....

I think there is a little bit of good & bad in it. On the good side, it shows that we are a passionate fanbase. The downside of the Gruden obsession (avatars, constant blatant falsehoods of "just saw Gruden on the Strip!") is that it just makes us look downright crazy.

I'm sorry, but who exactly do we hire then? I'd be happy if we were to get Gruden because I feel like he would do fine, but he honestly has ZERO head coaching experience in college football. I get he has a Superbowl ring and all, but ZERO. These hires are always a gamble. The trick is that you have to hire coaches who have proven they can coach. All of those coaches I named have proven some ability to win. So who are the only candidates in your eyes then? Gruden or Saban? That's the kind of logic that results in not hiring the next Sumlin or Kelly.
