See if you can pick which person has no busines being in the latest Nike Football commercial promoting their new fall football gear. I couldn't believe it when I saw it at Dick's sporting goods and at nikegridiron.com.

Steve Young
Brian Urlacher
Don Shula
Ladanain Tomlinson
Urban Meyer
Matt Leinart
Troy Polamalu
Michael Vick

Please let me know if I left off some people.

I'm pretty sure you all can pick out the name and wonder why in the hell he is in the ad. But in case you can't figure who it is here are some hints: He hasn't won anything yet in a big time conference, he's not in the NFL,
His Team will tie for 2nd in the SEC East this year.

Caring this much about a commercial is ridiculous. If it were Pat Hill you wouldn't care either.

Yeah I guess it comes across as caring too much about a commercial, but I guess I'm just tired of everyone being on Urban Meyer's jock, that he's the next best thing ever. If Pat Hill were on it I wouldn't understand why, but you are right I probably wouldn't care that much. I guess I just figured that there were some more worthy college football coaches for the spot rather than Urban Meyer. Example: Pete Carroll.

He's just the new thing around. People probably said the same thing about seeing CBP all over the NCAA tourney after we lost. If it's not "your guy" then it stinks.

I would like to point out something.....Do you ever see an Adidas commercial with Tennessee, Notre Dame, Nebraska, etc.? Adidas has never done anything to promote college football. I just think Adidas sucks!

When was the last time Nike promoted a team under their program?

....the only reason Oregon is even notable is beacuase of thier historic ties.

Addidas actually had an amazing commercial featuring the VOLS after we won our '98 NC. It was pulled after only a few airs because apparently it violated some NCAA BS.

But the commerical rocked if you ever saw it... something like if you work hard enough, they call you champion and had a big T and shots of the VOLS throughout. I've appreciate Addidas since.

Seems to me that if I had a football product and the customers were football fans I'd try to sign up whoever the fans are most likely to know about at the moment. Meyer is hot right now in terms of publicity. Doesn't mean a thing. He's just known now.

To me, the fact that people would whine about the other guy's team getting some more publicity reflects more on the insecurity of the whiner than anything else.

Yes, I have seen ads from Adidas in past years with all three schools represented.

I also liked the print ad series they ran. Photos were black and white photos of vols, with "Intensity" or some other marketing power word spelled out, only the "T" on a football helmet or Fulmer's hat would be in orange in the middle of the word. I liked it, but I don't know how many shoes it sold.

First of all I'm not insecure and I'm not a whiner. I was trying to simply point out that among all the people in the commercial, he had not only achieved the least amount but was also the least recognizable. I realize that he has the hot new Spread Option Offense that everyone is crazy about and that he is expected to do big things this year bc he always has his second year at a new school, I guess I just think it's a tad pre-mature. It's one thing to get it done at Utah, it's another at Florida.

For what it's worth I wish Tennessee would switch back to Nike, because Adidas team clothing is terrible in comparison.

Being the least recognizable in that crowd doesn't mean anything. And besides, pretty much anybody with little more than a passing interest in college football is familiar with Urban Meyer for what he did at Utah.

Also, switching back to Nike would be good becuase the marketing ability of the two companies isn't even close.

Actually it depends in which market they are competing. But for the most part you're right.

Not a question of what he has really done, but rather a question of people perceiving that he will do a lot.

And as I have said on here a few times already this summer, I have major reservations about this year's Gators. The problem is the offensive line and its lack of experience. Whether its spread option or just protecting Leak from a blitzing defense, the O-line is critical and I just don't think this line has what it will take.

In 3 years, when Tebow is in his second year running the option offense and the line is seasoned, that's when we make another run.

Hm. Still not easy to get a good picture on the spread, then. Any offense takes a good line to work.

:post-20645-1119625378: I completely agree. Nike team clothing has more appeal to the college football fan than adidas' clothing. Every year Adidas comes out with a new sideline shirt and it looks the same as the year before and the year before.

I don't remember what company the ad was marketing, but I remember a cool tv ad a couple of years ago (about the quality of color in the tv) when a guy is sitting on his couch, watching a last minute field goal, and goes jumping wildly into the air. The team that made the winning kick was our very own. Anyone remember that commercial?

Yeah I remember seeing that..

..I believe it was just a CBS commercial. Don't be too shocked if we end up wearing Reebok gear in the near future, now that Adidas purchased the company.
