This lineup is as dangerous as Anyone in the county!
Liam - in the lead off.
Ferguson - yes has been Streaky but usually gives Quality at bats
Rucker - most consistent
Gilbert - lefty at bat and is dangerous
Russell - right in the middle and usually gives quality at bats and is Dangerous! And pitchers know this
Luke - dangerous
Beck - dangerous
Derkay - just constantly has good at bats
Pav or Greer - dangerous hitters

I hear people being Debbie doubters and negative Nancy’s but if you look at the line up from top to bottom. You can see why this team is successful! I mean they lean on you as force the pitchers to make good pitches. Somebody will get ya most of the time.
There is some serious pop there and looking at it , I personally think they are as dangerous as any team in the Country and I am basing that on the past and the present! pitchers better be extremely careful with this group!! Go Vols. Let’s win 6 of the last 9! I think they can!!!

Why didn't we use that bunch against Lipscomb?

I like Pete for experience and good ABs...Greer has more pop...Im good with either at DH...might go with Pete vs righties only because he is switch hitter

Our success at the plate imo is that we see alot of pitches and get on base other ways than hits...I would move Max..we lose opportunities that Liam gives us too many times with him batting right afterward

Guys like Gilbert, Beck, and Ferguson went through slumps and seem to have gotten it together at the right time. Same for Pavolony before he got hurt, but Greer hasn’t missed a beat.

That’s a question you would have to ask the coach and in baseball , a game designed for failures. Ted Williams stuck out 13,000 times in his career. Read a stat that equated to 7 1/2 years of baseball and never put a ball in play . There will never be the Perfect line up and where there won’t be failures. But I like this Line up. I really do!!
13,000 is a little high. He struck out 709 times. But I get your broader point

To enjoy baseball the way it should be one must understand the sabermetrics of the game (at least slightly) and how percentages play into it. The game in MLB has evolved as we all know to a K verses HR league and its still enjoyable (the game and not the leadership at MLB obviously). MLB is on the proverbial ledge and tipping forward but the college game still has a lot of entertainment value. And, to me, baseball is a sport that must pass the ubiquitous eye test and the Vols certainly do. Man...I'm hoping for a ride to the CWS. Hopefully our pitching staff will give us a chance!

13,000 K's in 19 seasons is 684 K's per year for a career. And........more than his plate appearances in 19 years, so never put a ball in play ever.

He wouldn't make it out of the county with those kind of stats......

For context, Teddy Ballgame struck out 64 times in 677 plate appearances his rookie year. He only struck out more than 50 times in a year 2 other times. So yeah, 709 strikeouts in 9792 plate appearances.

Does that include backyard baseball by himself? There’s no way Ted Williams struck out 13k times in his MLB career. That’s 650 times per year over 20 years.

Yea, that stat was way off course but the point is this game is set up for failure and no one is going to be perfect every game. In Baseball , there will be some hick ups along the way. But the main theme of this post is the line up. I like it a a lot and looking forward to great things.
Go Vols
