It may not result in 12 wins but I believe UT has a lot more talent than our record has shown. I never had that confidence with Kiffin, Dooley, or Fulmer (post 2004) at the helm.

Can we just let him coach a game first? Perhaps sign a player? Maybe even coach the spring game?

You know that Fulmer was one pick away from beating LSU in the SEC championship in 2007 right?

That's the spirit bro! Nothing wrong with being positive ...support our players, coaches, and recruits until proven otherwise! Rise To The Top! Go Vols!

You know i hate to bring this up. But with the talent Fulmer had we should of won alot more games. I believe with all the talent when Peyton was here we should of won a NC with that bunch.

You know we were lucky as he!! to even be in that game? Luckily, Florida lost after beating us and we backed into that game. I'll have to go with 2004 as well.

Florida and Bama beat the hell out of us that year.

I like what I've seen from Coach Jones so far. A winning season this year would be an excellent gift to Vol Nation!

Let him coach the first the game. Let him recruit. Let him coach the spring game. Let's be patient. Those of us jumping to all sorts of conclusions about what he will and can do are the ones that will be the most disgruntled or mad IF he has setbacks. Coach jones is going to work hard. He's gonna motivate people. He's gonna demand people work hard for him.

Until the guy actually does something, like I don't know, win a game, can we hold off on starting a new thread for every new person who decides they are excited about jones and just post it in the other multiple threads started about being excited?

He could be our rich rod also. The truth is we don't know if he will be better than kiff or Fulmer but im sure he will be better thank dools... he just sucked ...

Im not sold on the spread off most spread are avg without a great qb.... not avg qb but a great qb.. so we shall wait n see.

I was thinking that was the game where LSU was playing a backup QB, and I was thinking he was injured...I remember him bleeding pretty badly...cut his hand maybe. If I'm remembering the right game, we shoulda beat the crap out of LSU. I don't remember us being particularly dominant that year either. We won the east by being the last team standing.

That said...it was really nice to be playing for the SEC championship...

That statement is extremely preliminary. He could end up being the next General Neyland or he could end up being the next Dooley.

Yes, he is saying all of the right things, but so did Kiffen, in the beginning.

Let's take the wait and see approach....

what's sad is that even if we had landed Gruden or resurrected Neyland, a six win season next year will be nothing short of miraculous.

I'll take 10 wins and backing in any day over our current plight.

LSU won it all that year.

I will tell you that we have NOTHING to go by at this moment that proves he is a great coach. OK he speaks the language of UT (could be marketing coaching him ...by the way there is a New Executive over the PR dept)
Ok..we have itunes video that shows he is pumping up his players (HELLO ....he is a coach what did you think they would show ?)

Recruiting.....On this one I have yet to see that he signed a PLayer or brought in a new player that wasn't on the market and considering UT anyway
I do not stay on top of recruiting until after signing day....too many ups and downs so I could be wrong here

I say ...Let's see him prove he is the man for the job
Remember when Dooley was hired there were a TON of these threads about what a nice guy he was and how his Dad would help him etc etc etc and stand behind him as the new coach
I will support the new coach but I want to see it on the field ...but don't expect me or a LARGE number of Boosters to give this new Coach our checkbook...we have seen it too many times

Successful coaches know how to get the best out of their players and that's an attribute that's been missing in these past few years. We had enough talent to win eight games in 2012, but poor coaching and half ass effort resulted in a losing season. CBJ has won at every stop and maybe it's because he knows how to get the best out of his players. I expect a Jones coached team to play with intensity and effort, we simply got out played in a lot of games last year. :twocents:

I'm more confident with Jones at the helm than I ever was with Dooley, I'll say that much. His experience coming into the job trumps that of the Dool.

However, as much as I may get blasted for this, Kiffin was a "real coach" in his one season here. I don't like the way he went about it anymore than ya'll do, but what he did with the passing game was nothing short of remarkable, and we had a top defense made out of a shoe string budget (and one superstar). His style of football perfectly fit the SEC, while it hasn't worked out west.

The man was handed on a golden platter one of, if not the most talent stacked team in the country. Has signed some of the, if not the most talented classes in the country.......finished in the toilet bowl.....and lost. NOT a real coach. If I were his recruits. I'd be beat feeting it for the hills and looking elsewhere.
