We aren't ever going to get back to 1990s Fulmer, 1980s Majors, etc. Tennessee sucks with High School talent and program just doesn't have anything that can draw recruits. The mainstream sports media craps on us a lot as well (see 0 Heisman for example).

Eh, we lost 42-17 to Nebraska on 01/02/98 and then won the National Championship a year later. Some changes need to be made for sure, but I wouldn't overreact just yet.

Nah. OSU decided to play their best game of the season and we played and coached our worst…which isn’t good with the talent disparity. We’ll be fine but we aren’t sniffing elite any time soon.

Just making a statement. The mountain is high and we’re still trying to get a foothold. Over reactions are expected after this type of game. It is what it is.

and let's be fair, Alabama and Florida are slipping and that has helped Heupel. Alabama of the 2010s would have trashed Tennessee.

Naaah. We’re not destroying anything.

But it does show how much work remains to be done. We’re a soft team. I saw flashes of grit this season, of course. But we still fold quickly and completely on the road in hostile environments. Plus, at O-line and WR, we get handled by top competition. It also bad that, in our case, “defense often doesn’t travel.”

Top teams win tough ones on the road.
