This Team is Simply Poorly Coached

We had two main areas in need of improvement from last year: half-court defense and half-court offense.

Both areas seem to be worse this year. We made the pg from USC look like Steve Nash today; I can only imagine what John Wall will do to us.

Our half-court offense is even more incoherent than last year. When you go about 10 minutes without a field goal and miss around 10 or 12 straight threes, why not give Chism a look down on the block? Pathetic.

Bottomline:

We were destroyed today by a team that we were more talented than at every position. Lots of the Pearl Slurpers on here have criticized Kevin O'neill, but he simply took Bruce Pearl to school today, and there's no way around it.

Prognostication:

This looks like a team in turmoil to me. This has the makings of a replay of Jerry Green's final year on the Hill. I'm starting to think that Pearl has got Fulmeritis and has become very complacent. And he even managed to throw in the "perfect storm" line in the postgame. In my opinion, barring massive improvement, this team goes 9-7 or 8-8 in the conference, and we'll be waiting to see if we are lucky enough to make the tournament on Selection Sunday.

I think hatvol should get royalties every time the word 'slurper' is used in reference to Pearl apologists.

We probably played our worst game of the year, no doubt. I still think it is more about travelling across 3 time zones than anything. If you are not used to it, like pro athletes, it can make a huge difference. Think about when the time changes in the spring and fall just one hour and it throws you off. It is no excuse, but it is also why I will not over react about this result.

That would have been a logical excuse if they had landed 2 hours before tipoff.

Been that way 3 years running. I'm starting to get the feeling Pearl has too good a relationship with these guys and they forget he's the coach. I think maybe he needs to remind them.

Hahaha.....this crack me up because I've been saying it from the time I joined the message board and got ripped for it. I worked with Pearl in Milwaukee and his problems then and now are the same: he doesn't coach the Xs and Os well and is too friendly with his players. Bruce is a salesman, a used car salesman if you ask me, but he has done a lot to bring notice back to TN basketball. I think he's used his mojo at TN up.

So you say it's not an excuse but you pretty much say it is one....

Either way, trying to even remotely blame the time zone is a copout at its finest.

Think Bruce needs to start chewing some tail and get these guys playing better. They got some talent. Chism if he shoots over 10 feet out needs to sit, he ought to work the boards, He will never make it in the nba

I am not trying to make an excuse and said as much, teams should be capable of handling this variable in their preparations. I think it was a contributing factor to our poor performance, that is all.

Bull shiz. Unimane followed him at UWM and says he can win anywhere.

Flipping the switch will be nearly impossible, but he now gas an opportunity disown all these adoptees and and bench some guys for failing to focus on the things that win.

I love Bruce and am happy he is here. However, he needs to learn how to make adjustments. He used the same game plan from start to finish yesterday and it obviously wasnt working. I thought he would rip them a new one at halftime and they would come out inspired and take over the game. How many times did they score on the hail mary pass off of our inbound press D? Ridiculous

Bruce needs to learn from Kiffin how to handle his players. If you don't produce you don't play. He's getting paid to coach, not be their friend.

So fatigue kept them from taking the extra steps into the paint?

Pearls offense=spread option offense in football! He will never produce much NBA talent with this kind of offense. I'm sure that's why we can't get a good P.G in here.
