He is always good for a quote or two. He also said "as coaches we remember some of the wins and all of the loses". He mentioned that the Memphis game was no more important than an SEC game. His thoughts on the LSU game were that we should have been up at the half. He thought we did not take advantage of forcing 17 first half turnovers. Suprisingly Pearl said we shot the ball too much in the LSU game (75 shots) and we needed to be more patient. He was also concerned about 14 missed layups.

He thinks that if we don't defend better and make the easy baskets we will lose twice this week.

Pearl also was pretty hard on the players tonight at practice. He usually is a little easier on teams after loses due to confidence issues but he felt like the teams confidence is fine but he was not getting the energy from the team that he expects.

Another good quote from him...

"One thing, after playing LSU and Memphis, what talent can Florida show us Saturday that we won't have already seen?''

Didn't see Texas at their best, but LSU's frontcourt talent is as good as anyone's, with the possible exception of UCONN.

I have changed my mind about this. Please do underestimate us all you want. Go ahead. We suck. You should have no problem beating us whatsoever ...

I'm not sure who's underestimating Florida. Lawgator, you're too smart to be adopting the tired "everyone disses us" posture.

No, actually, I'm not very bright at all.

But evidently Pearl doesn't think much of us, from reading the above posts. Atany rate, i am not so foolish as to believe that florida is really the number 2 team in the country. We've played some good teams, yes, but not enough of them and no real barn burners to figure out really where we are.

Why does everyone on an opposing team read so much into statements like the one Pearl made. I don't see how Pearl is saying he "doesn't think much of Florida". He's just saying that he's playing 3 very tough teams in a row. By the time the Vols get to the third one, they will have faced 2 teams that combined are as tough as Florida. That's hardly saying Florida is no good.

If he said that since we played LA Lafayette and Alabama A&M so we've already seen as much talent as Florida then I would agree with you :biggrin2:

Okay, I guess that is a valid point. Just rubbed me the wrong way to begin with.

It's not just you - fans from every team do it. It's like we are just waiting to be offended and seek it out somtimes. :peace2:

Didn't know this until read it on CNN/SI site. Florida took a vote from Duke. Excerpt:

One of three unbeaten teams in Division I, Duke (16-0) received all but one first-place vote from the 72-member national media panel. The other No. 1 nod went to No. 2 Florida (16-0) after a week in which 11 ranked teams lost, two of them twice.

Duke, which defeated Maryland and Clemson last week, and Florida, which beat Mississippi State and Auburn, held the top two spots for a second straight poll.

John Kaltefleiter of The Athens (Ga.) Banner-Herald switched his No. 1 vote from Duke to Florida.

"I like Florida a lot and I thought about it over the weekend after I saw quite a bit of the Duke-Clemson game," Kaltefleiter said Monday. "I know the game was in Clemson and Duke won by 10 points, but Clemson gave them fits in some areas. I've seen Florida a lot and it is something totally different from last year as far as chemistry is concerned."

Florida, which lost its top three scorers from last year's Southeastern Conference tournament champions, started the season unranked and has climbed to No. 2 with a lineup of one junior and four sophomores.

"There is no big man running the floor right now as well as Joakim Noah, and Lee Humphrey can shoot. He may not be (Duke's) J.J. Redick but he can shoot," Kaltefleiter said. "This may be one of Billy Donovan's closest-knit teams as far as chemistry and I think Duke will lose before they do. Florida was very, very impressive. I thought there would be more people who would switch. I was surprised I was the only one."
