This Week's Trap...

Hat, do you think Purnell would be a good hire for the Ducks? Seems to me that with the money that they will have at their disposal, they would be able to pull someone a little better.

Purnell seems to be a less successful version of Bruce Pearl at the moment. Not sure if you had a lot of money, you would throw it at him.

As much as I love John Pelphrey for what he did at UK, and what he means to people all over this state, he is not ready to coach elite D1 basketball. I hope things don't get to messy, but its hard to see it happening any other way.

I started to post, but stopped in confusion. Does calling John Pelphrey names violate the board policy? They aren't overlyy creative, but they are classic, solid insults and describe him very well, IMO.

Pephrey should go be an assistant at Oklahoma State when he gets canned in Fayetteville. He'd fit right in with that bunch.

Unless they want to really overpay, Oregon is going to find out that their job isn't as desirable as they think. If Few had any interest, he'd have taken it last year. The only reason Kent survived into this season is their feelers to Few were met with a tepid response. I'm not a big fan of Purnell's, but they'll be hard pressed to do any better.

I've seen a couple of these and always enjoy them.

As for Arkansas, I agree 100 % on Nolan Richardson and him laughing until he pukes right about now. Where do you see Arkansas going? I knew John Pelphrey was a bad hire when it happend but who could you see replacing Pelphrey or restoring Arkansas to it's glory days of the past? I still remember some of those Kentucky/Arkansas games...made for some classics! I'd love to see the Razorbacks more competitive...would be great for the SEC.

The perfect guy for that job would be a sober Billy Gillispie. If UTEP and Tulsa have the years I expect them to, I'd think Tony Barbee and Doug Wojick would be in running.

I can see Barbee. He's improved UTEP every year he's coached there and would probably recruit the Memphis area pretty good.

South Alabama takes Arkansas down today. How ironic. The program Pelphrey left is in better shape than the one he is at now. Don't think that's a coincidence.

The SEC is looking worse this year than last year at this point. Kentucky, Florida and TN look to be the only real contenders this year. With our OOC schedule being so weak Memphis and Kansas become almost have to win games to get a decent seed.

I agree about Nolan Richardson. He's already been to the place where the other two coaches couldn't/can't seem to even find the first step.

Good read Hat, looks like the Hogs are enduring a whole different kind of '40 minutes of hell' these days.

Man you really need to read one of my long winded posts...

Ole Miss and Vanderbilt have pretty good OOC victories and chances for more.

Ole Miss and Vandy have a chance to make the tournament this year. The west division is so weak, the east may dominate and get a bunch of wins in the conference this year. Ole Miss appears to be the only quality team from the west at this point.

They're getting exactly what they deserve. A bad coach recruiting a bunch of reprobates is a recipe for home losses to Morgan State.

Actually, I'm surprised he hasn't done a better job recruiting considering the Arkansas tradition.

I'm not. He's a hayseed and a bad coach. That isn't a combination that draws elite talent. That's why he has to take the Courtney Fortsons of the world.
