Those evil capitalists are at it again -- giving

screw charity, it is entirely too socialist for my taste. :)

charity has nothing to do with socialism. charity is willingly giving your money, your time, or service to someone unable to provide for themselves. socialism takes your money/time/service at gunpoint.

1) it was a joke, I hope you caught that

2) Socialism is nothing that you described, that would be called Totalitarianism. Canada and Sweden both run a derivative of Socialism that work just fine without any force, Democratic Socialism or a welfare state would be the terms. Socialism is, in itself, a fundamentally good idea, as is Communism. Unfortunately they have a stigma that stems from some governments calling themselves Socialist or Communist republics, when in reality they are no more than Totalitarian regimes.

work fine without any force eh? try not paying your taxes in those "social democracies", the same goes for the US.

I disagree with socialism and communism being "good ideas" too, but that's the libertarian in me speaking. redistribution of wealth in those systems is fundamentally flawed.

taxes are all part of the plan my friend, you are right, if you don't pay your taxes anywhere you are jailed. so i don't necessarily understand why you would bring that into the argument. as for the fundamental flaws associated with communism and socialism, if you can find me a way of governing that is not flawed, I'll bite, but seeing as how we are coming from two completely different sides of this argument, it might be best to agree to disagree.

The problem with communism and socialism is the disincentive factor. I believe it is fundamentally at odds with human instinct. Give me capitalism with a dose of safety net/redistribution vs. socialism with a dose of capitalism.

You get the tax break incentive but to many it is a status item. Check many of these types when they are forced to actually talk about the charity they give to and none can intelligently describe the cause beyond what is in the title.

Is there anyone out there that you would consider having good intentions?

Show me one and I'll consider them....

Well, it's a sucker's bet since you seem to find the bad in everyone but how about Warren Buffett? Rather than passing his fortune on to his family, he's giving about 90% or more of his entire fortune to charity.

Do I find the bad in everyone? Or is that just some kneejerk illogical complaint? Funny how you mangle what I said to fit your own little argument. I make a joke and you go off on some gripe how I find no good in anyone. I find it funny you taking this approach when not long ago you criticised me for making these types of responses.

Glad you found it funny.
