So, he's out with an injury now. Considering the limited minutes he's seen, the tiff on the bus which led to an indefinite suspension and the injury which may keep him out of the tournament, I'd say it's been a rather disappointing season for him.

I know he was a big part of why this past recruiting class was ranked so well, but I haven't seen a great deal from him to warrant the impressions others had of him. His best ball was played in the RTPL before the season started.

What's going on with this kid, and can the coaches develop him? During the 5 years that Pearl's been here, I honestly haven't seen any player greatly improve their game.

I don't know how much I can attribute Scotty's improvement to Pearl, for those that might point to him. He's a driven guy, and may be doing this on his own. Cameron Tatum would seem to be evidence to the contrary, in any case.

Agree about player improvement under Pearl. It is astounding, I think a couple players made a few strides but nothing impressive.

Brian Williams? I think he has improved quite a bit under Pearl. Lost about 70 lbs and is a rebounding machine and scores fairly efficiently in the post. S. Pearl? He has become a very solid player, especially on the defensive side of the ball. Wayne Chism also became a very solid player under Pearl and improved by leaps and bounds. McRae hasn't really played, can't judge him yet.

We should go get another coach that can develop players better and see if he can lead us to six straight NCAA tournaments, 3 sweet sixteens and 1 elite eight.

McRae may have been overrated, but he's not completely out of his league in the SEC, the guy lead the team in scoring during summer practice with over 20 a game. He has ridiculous athletic ability and a jumper that will improve. Don't count him out yet, he really hasn't gotten a chance this year. He's behind a player that will more than likely be in the NBA this year and a fourth year junior. He will more than likely be starting for us next year and nobody really knows what's going on with him.

And tell a better lie, too I suppose.

Brian and Wayne both improved during their time here, no doubt. Part of me just believes that both could have been developed better than they were. We get this line about how players come along at different rates, but our guys seem to always be a lot slower at developing their game than our competition.

I'm not trying to bash Pearl necessarily, but I do find it frustrating that some of our players with a great deal of talent haven't made the strides that, I'm inclined to believe, they could have if developed better by our staff.

Just relax, Jordan Mcrae is just a freshman, there wasnt really a good spot for him to play much this year. I would be surprised if he isn't a big contributor on offense next season.

Brian Williams, JP Prince, Steven Pearl, and Wayne Chism all improved. He is a freshman. Give it time.

Love the last line. Never heard it before. Never said players hadn't improved, but haven't seen impressive improvement. Williams, for example has improved without a doubt, but you gonna tell me it has been a dramatic improvement for 4 yrs of coaching. We have diff ideas of improvement. I see a lot of the same kind of mistakes made in players over the course of 2-4 years that I would assume coaches would work on with players. My opinion. Love how you threw out that last line though. Cool.

This kid went to HS where I'm stationed, I've saw him play a few times. He will be a contributor next season. Write it down

He is a freshman. He wasn't supposed to contribute a large amount. He is immature. He will get more minutes next year then we can actually judge how he plays.

if he doesn't contribute significantly as a frosh, he is a bust.

I never complained about "significant contributions." I also never called him a "bust." I said, the way things have gone this season have been disappointing, and wondered if.something was going on with the kid, and if our coaches could develop his talent. Nice strawman argument though.

People seem to be wanting to pick a Pearl fight. I understood what you meant. It is a valid question as to why McBee gets minutes over a heralded recruit. Also, the comment about development wasn't a shot at Pearl, as it seems many took it. I agree with your assessment that there hasn't been A LOT of significant progression with some players. Scotty Hopson isn't in the NBA after 2 seasons, he hasn't made a huge leap. People are so eager to defend Pearl that some tale any comment and take it wrong.

when did i say that my comment was directed toward you? I also didn't make an argument. but if you want my opinion, here you go. I didn't expect much out of him this season anyway. He needs a year to get bigger and stronger.

In honer of the "Is Hubbs overrated" thread, I thought I'd give a bump to show everyone how bad our fans overreact about players/coaches.
