1. Physically, he looks better than last year. He's stronger for sure, and it sounds crazy, but he looks quicker too. Maybe he's just more efficient in his motion.

2. His defense is better this year. He's not taking plays off, he's jumping passing lanes, he's playing with defensive energy compared to last year.

3. His handle looks better, so far. I didn't see any crazy-looking turnovers. Stat sheet shows him with two, and at least one was a charge that I thought was an iffy call.

4. He had two really nice-looking drives and scores last night.

5. Big problem last night was too many bricks. 5 of them from the arc. He needs to choose better looks from outside, and he needs to settle down and finish in the paint.

6. Mentally? Hard to say, but without a doubt he let the refs take him totally out of the game Monday. He was visibly hanging his head over some of the calls, which he claims he's trying not to do.

7. In conclusion, I disagree with those who say "same as last year." He's not: there are some obvious changes. However, "inconsistent" seems like it still might apply. I'm prepared to give him a little more benefit of doubt than some of y'all, though.

He was wide open on most of those. A good shooting guard has to consistently hit wide open shots. Especially one that is a turnover waiting to happen.

he needs to drive to the basket more and quit shooting the three. he is quicker than he was, so drive to the bucket and score !! if he doesn't make it, he might get fouled and can hopefully start making his free throws !! if that doesn't work, then sit him down for a long while and let him stew---- :salute: :salute:

His shot is struggling and that's what's gonna hurt us. His shot seemed to have the old Hopson rainbow as it has in the past which I thought he worked on during the off-season. I'm not saying he can't fix it but the SG position looks pretty weak right now

He has never developed a mid range game at all. Everything is a 3 or a layup for Scotty. That's one of the reasons he's never going to be a big scorer.

What game did he get fouled on that FT-line shot? Ost or Mst?

That is what will keep him from being top NBA material, but what kills him playing solid college ball is his lack of confidence. I don't understand how a guy so talented can get so distraught and depressed on the court. It reminds me of Eeyore. Storm cloud just following him around TBA.

If he would stay positive out there and play defense on every possession, it will lead to him breaking out offensively. He can develop a mid-range game in the NBA, but in order to get there, he needs to work on staying aggressive and playing his game as well as he can.

Next time he hangs his head Pearl should bench him, chew him out, and sit him for a long period of time during the game. If that doesn't get his attention, nothing will.

The sample size is still too small, but overall I think Hopson looks like a much better player whether or not his shots fell last night.

He was more aggressive than he ever was last year and that was a big complaint on him. His offensive moves looked very refined and most of the plays he did score on were impressive. E.g. The layup he made on the fast break that was contested is something he probably would have missed his fresh and soph years.

His defense was alot better in that he just showed more effort and didn't get beat on drives to the basket. His turnovers were a pass he made that was mishandled and a bad charge call.

This being said he is still just an above average college basketball player at his best. He is who he is and there isn't some switch that will make him the player everyone expected him to be. We should just be thankful he has shown improvement and not shipped it in.

I'm still trying to figure out his improvement. From day one, he has had two major weaknesses. Dribbling and shooting and there's been no improvement at all.

Who cares what "everyone" expected? What he is, is a player that can help this team. I don't expect him to be able to take over a game, but he CAN be a great defender with his length and quickness, and he can definitely be a serious matchup problem, especially on a team with the other pieces we have.

I agree, that is the point i was trying to make

He was lazy on defense and would disappear constantly on the offensive end. If you watched any of the three games this year you would have saw improvement. I have not saw any evidence that his dribbling is weak this year as well.

Scotty's game would dramatically improve with a mid-range game.

We will more than likely play Nova before we play Pitt and Nova's guards and forwards will definitely give Scotty a challenge, but I think he plays well in big games against better competition because he seems more mentally prepared and has the athletic ability to succeed against anyone in college. Last year he almost shot 45%, and has shot about 34 percent from 3 while he has been in college, so I don't think Scotty is as bad of a shooter as some people think. Also, Scotty played lockdown defense in the NCAA tournament last year, which is when it really matters. He has the potential to be a great defeder and I still predict hiim and Harris will be a great 1/2 punch.
