I think it's going to be a physical SEC contest. MSU has been running more this year with Dee Bost, but this will be a game in the 60's.

It'll be close. I just don't UT has the experience to pull out the upset. I really think you'll see the confidence from the Florida win come around after the UK game.

The key to me for this game is Kenny Hall. If he can hold his own against Sidney and Moultre, then the Vols will have a great chance for another upset.

We haven't exactly played well on the road this year. We played pretty good in the 1st half against Charleston, but other than that, we've played like the inexperienced team we are.

It'll be interesting to see if we buy into the concept of defense again against Miss St. Florida was not an easy team to guard but Donovan has never been known for his defense.

A game like Florida hopefully makes the players say "Oh man, Coach 'Zo was right! Defense can win games!" and it only goes up from there.

I think this game will be huge in determining how this team will go forward. A light bulb moment if you will.

That is definitely the hope that the light bulb has gone on for some of these guys. If we can play a slow hard nosed physical game then I think we can frustrate them some and hopefully pull out the win.

As another poster said a while ago, our chances are better if the score is in the 60s. All about defense.

I fear a bad loss would really disrupt the psyche of the team. That could lead to a very erratic and spasmodic season IMO.

60's sounds about right. I am just happy to see a MSU lineup with no Vernardo! That guy was a shot blocking machine every time we played them. The physicality Sydney brings to the post is the matchup that worries me most. Something tells me you will see Maymon beasting up on Sydney more than Hall. I think Hall would get pushed around quite a bit. Look for Yemi to get some minutes on Sydney as well.

Chris, I agree with you on this one. It is going to take Golden/Maymon/McCrae or someone really having a huge game for us to win. We need a good, solid road win, however I feel like this team has a couple more losses on the road before we get it.

Sidney can be a beast, but his immaturity has gotten the best of him in a few games this year.
If the refs call a close game and there are a lot of early fouls he'll probably see the bench a lot.

I am not worried about Sidney or Moultrie, I think the priority should be shutting down Dee Bost. Dee is the facilitator of that offense and all things run through him.

If you think our offense looks lost without Golden then wait until you see theirs without Bost, they a run a "jack up a shot and hope Sidney or Moultrie gets a put back" offense

I agree with you I hope our bigs bring the effort they did against Florida and out physical them inside. That will help out on the perimeter if we aren't having to double down on the blocks like we didn't have to against florida.

It'll be interesting to see how UT can match up against State's frontcourt. Moultrie is an absolute beast with a well rounded game. I expect that Maymon will draw him, defensively, which will be interesting as Maymon will give up a good 5"-6". These guys are two of the best rebounders in the nation, let alone the SEC.

Sidney is a fat tub of goo, but he has flashes of brilliance. I'm guessing Hall draws Sidney, which has the potential to be disastrous for UT if the refs let them play. Battle of the under-achievers.

The Hood matchup is the biggest question mark. I guess Tatum will draw him most of the game. Hood is possibly the most efficient scorer on State's team, while Tatum has been unimpressive.

I think State's got the distinct advantage in frontcourt play.

I'm not following the bolded part. Expound?

Sorry.

I'm more talking about playing against teams that are as good or slightly better than them.

They know they can beat good teams. I don't think UK or MSU is a barometer of that, but I believe after that you'll see the confidence from the win come around against teams like LSU, UGA, Arky...teams that are around their talent level.

florida also had the distinct advantage on the interior but that is what effort and physical hard nosed defense can do to you. if they can match the interior defensive intensity that they played with the other night then they should be fine.

Vols big guys have to stay out of foul trouble early. I haven't seen state play yet, but I'm going to guess they crash offensive glass?
