Thoughts on UT QB's

At the outset CBJ chose to use game experience at QB to begin instead of throwing a green freshman under the bus. The freshman have now been a part of big time football and it is apparent if we want to get in a bowl our best chance will be with using a freshmen QB instead of upperclassmen. The whole team has made great steps of improvement since the seasons beginning, and that includes Dobbs and Fergy. If the rest of the season produces wins for us it will be with the QB play of these freshmen. I believe they will get it done. GO BIG ORANGE!!!!!
Ummmmm! Neither freshmen would be getting a shot if Worley wasn't hurt. This was not a coaches decision. He had no choice, but it may turn out to be blessing in disguise. To suggest that they are best chance at a bowl is ridiculous on the amount of playing time Dobbs got in the Bama game. He may go off at Missouri or you may be praying that Worley was back.

I like Ferg and Dobbs, but I wouldn't hesitate to take a top QB in this years class if one becomes available.

I look for Peterman to transfer out to a smaller school this fall. Worley will be a lame duck either way next year whether he starts or not.

I really hope that Dobbs or maybe even RF can take the job right now to settle the issue.

I think Worley has the talent to be a good QB. He can manage the game and distribute the ball. He probably isn't going to become a play maker. One of the others might.

That said, I think he's going to be a great guy to have on the team and especially if one of the Fr and/or Peterman leave. I think that prospect was a big factor in CBJ attempting to avoid choosing between the two.

I view Johnny Football through a different prism. While he is flashy and is a journalists dream, there is a problem. ATM's talent level is mid tier in the SEC west. Even with Johnny Money in his nearly two years as a starter, they have only won one game more than their talent predicts. While that was against Bama, ATM joins the ranks of Utah, Auburn, SCAR and others who surprised a Bama team that tends to drop a game of no consequence. If you think I am wrong consider that losing to ATM was of no consequence to Bama's national championship run. That means, at least to me, that the single victory that gave Manziel the hype and the Heisman had no effect on college football. Regardless of what you see with your eyes, Manziel's actual impact on his team, or the greater college football universe, is on par with Maty Mauk or whats-his-name from Ole Miss.

I dont like him, but manziel Is still 1 of, if not the best player in cfb. Imo.

I don't agree with the bolded at all personally. For the most part I think Worley seems pretty confident out there.

Where does all this lost and hesitancy come from? Maybe Worley just played within his skill set and that was all we were going to get. Dobbs had an upside and it just took a little time and reps to get him to what we saw at Bama. The more reps he gets the better. Worley is and always will be a Vol who gave his all for this university. People need to lay off this kid.

Butch kept saying all year that he would play the QB that gave us the best chance to win. That means either every other QB on the roster is terrible (because Worley is mediocre at best), he and his staff aren't very good at evaluating QBs or he was lying. Remember, Butch is basically king of the coach speak, so I wouldn't rule out lying.

Yeah Butch lied so he could put out the worst of the 3 QB's. That makes no sense. Why can't Worley have been the QB that gave us the best chance to win at the time? These coaches are not stupid and believe it or not they know a helluva lot more about this game than any of us in this thread. That may be hard for some to comprehend while sitting at the keyboard but there is a reason why he coaches and we opine. Maybe Dobbs just happened to step his game up and grew up before our very eyes the second half of Bama. That's the parody of college football believe it or not.

Look, you are taking what I said the wrong way. I don't think he lied, it was just one of the possibilities I was trying to name so there weren't holes in any argument. My personal opinion is that the coaching staff honestly believed Worley was the best QB on the roster to this point and that is why he has started.

Now, according to lots of people in the media and what not, Dobbs was the 4th string QB heading into the season and during much of the season. Injuries have changed that obviously (many have said Ferguson would have played over Dobbs and we all saw Peterman play over him)

Now, if the 4th string QB comes in and plays well (better than the season long starter in Worley) against Mizzou then I don't care what anyone says about "the light came on" or "he grew up right before us", I don't buy that crap, I'll feel totally content that the coaching staff made a critical mistake that should be questioned if your 4th string guy is better than your 1st and you just had no idea.
