1. Cox is our mvp this season. He's the most consistent player we've got

2. That being said, Will Maddox is a close second. He's a throwback who does what is asked. He almost always had the dirtiest uniform after every game.

3. AJ Reed may be the SEC and National MVP, but if he cant beat a collegiate shift, then he's going to be a one dimensional mlb prospect.

4. I think Lee will be our best choice at closer.

5. We won these last two games because of our left-handed hitters. The Wildcats simply did not have enough leftie pitching.

6. Vols have the best coach in America. I could not hear what he was discussing with field ump. It was obvious that the UK starter was going to be pulled for rightie/leftie. The starter was standing on mound when CDS came out. I would bet dollars to donuts that he was discussing the balk rule with ump because the lone arm in the pen was scouted as a balker. Sure enough, he balked with runner on 2nd with Maddox at bat.

7. The UK coach is either playing sabermetric or Earl weaver ball. 2 runners on. 0 outs. Down 2-0. #2 hitter at plate with AJ Reed on deck. The situation screams bunt to put 2 RISP. Instead he swings away. His team had 0 hits at that point.

8. Vols remain undefeated in Volstros jerseys.

9. 8 errors on weekend (0 today) we only had 40 on the season before game. Miss St. has fewest Es in SEC and we play there next week. We increased our error total by 20% in 2 games.

10. There were actually a few Wildcat fans this weekend. Mostly family it appears. Kentucky couldn't draw fans at home unless they had some sort of "Blow a Basketball Player" promotion.

11. I would really like to see us ahead of UGA & Mizzou after next weekend.

Good post and observations, OP. I agree on all of them, especially #6. Really looking forward to the day he leads them to the CWS finals. It will happen. Add to your list that Stewart is really seeing the ball well and ripping it.

Christin Stewart and Maddox are tied in my book. Cox is our MVP though.
Dave is one of the best. He put the shift that shut down reed the last two days. He knows his baseball provided by your example. His pitching staff shut down Kentucky, and he did a lot of the development.
Do you guys ever notice that a lot of our pitchers sport a wicked change up?

I didn't get a chance to watch the game on Friday, but caught the majority of Thursday's game and a few innings yesterday. Of course Thursday was a bit rough for us, but I really liked watching Martin work his change up all around the strike zone. I also liked the quick pace Andy Cox works with.

I love the brand of ball Serrano and Co. are playing. It's only gonna get better as we recruit and develop more and more kids.

GBO!

Josh Peterson has a wicked Vulcan change I think. Dave is the master of the change up.
Serrano's brand of baseball is fun to watch and solid. I can't wait until next year.

The change and the split finger fastball have made a lot of pitchers millionaires. Yesterday I couldn't spell millionaire, today I am one.

Cox is MVP but I would have Nick Senzel 2nd. #1 or 2 in batting average and 1 or 2 in RBIs. And to quote the late, great Joe Dean, "He's just a freshman."

Agree.

CDS has done this several times this year with the field ump. Good solid coaching. If anything it gets everybody thinking about it.

Good points. Agree on Stewart and Maddox. I always look at it as who are the guys that make the most difference in winning and losing on the field as well as in the heads of their teammates. Both of those guys "get it" and their teammates know it.

We have the Wiz of pitching in our head coach on the collegiate level. In the future the entire pitching staff will get a good look by MLB scouts every year. I also love not having to depend on the HR to get runs.

I bet we start seeing pitching coaches come to Serrano like they did at Fullerton to learn his methods of the change up. Dave's style will work in the SEC, as its good fundamental baseball with efficient pitching. Notice how we pound the strike zone, especially Lee. He's already one for one here with Zach Godley being dominate in low A, and he was drafted in the top 10 rounds.

The fastball change combo with a breaking ball is the best in the pros. The Oakland A's win on it.

Dave also knows his situational managing as he seems to call the right plays at the right time. Our problem is inconsistentcy in execution. It will be corrected as our guys get more experience.

I love Stewie but I put Maddox ahead now in his importance because of his flexibility in the field and his ability to get on base when needed. Stewart's our best hitter but scares the bejeebies out of my sometimes in field.
