Driving in to work today, it really hit me. One of the two weeks we wait for all year long is here. It's not UAB or Kentucky or the prospect of a bowl game that leads me to plant orange and white flowers in a checkered pattern out front. Or have my boat painted in Tennessee colors. Or mow a "Power T" into my back yard from time to time. I don't cook "Commodore Cookies" in November. "Rebel-er-done!" doesn't sound right.

THIS WEEK is why we nail hooks all the way around our closets to accommodate a different Orange hat for every day of the week. THIS WEEK is why we know the words to "Rocky Top." And the "Alma Mater." It's why we shop for tailgating gear in June. And start a football countdown in January. And can tell you to the hour how long until Saturday's kickoff. THIS WEEK is why a Pride of the Southland Marching Band CD appears in collections across the Nation. It's why there are scattered orange flags throughout neighborhoods in Tennessee. And Florida. And Iraq.

THIS WEEK IS WHAT IT'S ALL ABOUT, AND I'LL TELL YOU THIS:

IT'S GREAT TO BE A TENNESSEE VOL!!!

HEY! You stole my countdown gimmick!! :aggressive:

Someone emailed me a question about plans to play golf Saturday before the game. Asked me if I figured the Gators have it in the bag.

Nah. As I told him, I'm optimistic, but not confident.

Well said Kiddiedoc

I have been flying my power T flag all week. Living on the Outer Banks though, I am going to have to take it down soon as the winds are really starting to pickup. However, once Ophelia passes, the flag shall be flying again.

Go Away Ophelia and Go Vols!

This is my first trip to Gainesville. Do any of you have any suggestions on where to park? I'd just like to have some ideas before I get there. Thanks and go Big Orange.

Its been a few years since I went up to a game there. I suggest looking into parking right over by the law school (to the West of the stadium, i.e. before you reach the stadium coming from I-75). Park in one of the yards there (guesing about $10-$15). Probably worth it as opposed to in the lots by the stadium because it can take forever to get out of those lots. Then, just follow the crowd. From the law school, its probably a ten, maybe fifteen minute walk, and quite pleasant.

I am proud to say that this is the first year I get to be home for the entire Vols season, and I am proudly flying my 8ft Tennessee banner that I had flown over Afghanistan on a combat mission in an A-10 warthawg. GO BIG ORANGE

I've had offers to go places saturday, adn of course I turn them all down. People who arent Vols fans dont unserstand the love we have for our team. I refuse to wear any colors but orange and white this week, and constantly wearing a UT hat.

God, I love the Vols.

If one has never seen or heard the A-10, It means your safe or dead.
I love that plane and very glad the Gov found away to keep them on line or in the sky.

Back to topic.......This weeks anticipation of saturdays game is second to none. A few quotes i also keep handy im proud to share.

"No program in the country inspires the loyalty and passion that Tennessee football exacts from its fans." AthlonSports.

"Mr.Speaker, I have often said that in my district, the colors orange and white are almost as patriotic as red, white, and blue. That is because orange and white represents the official colors of the undisputed NCAA national football champion.
"Mr.Speaker, just a few short weeks ago the Tennessee Vols completed a perfect 13-0 season and earned their first national championship in 47 years.
"Mr.Speaker, I congratulate the newly crowned NCAA National Champion Tennessee Volunteers and everyone who has contributed to their perfect season. GO VOLS!" ....excerpts from remarks made by Tennessee Congressman John Duncan, On the floor of the United States House of Representatives, jan. 19, 1999

"People are waiting for Tennessee to mess up, but I've got another story for them. We're not going to mess up. We have something to prove. We're on a mission."........Al Wilson during the 1998 National Championship Season

"Tennessee definitely has one of the best fan bases in all of football, and they travel with as many fans as anyone in the country. There are only a few schools that can compete with Vol fans; teams like Nebraska and some SEC schools travel like Tennessee, but not many. Then again I don't think you could ever hope to have any more support as a Tennessee player, from the fans that UT brings game after game. It really is Amazing."........Trey Teague former offensive tackle, To the Jackson Sun

"I'll be a TENNESSEE VOLUNTEER for the rest of my life.".....Peyton Manning

"The traditions and pageantry of Tennessee football are rich and deep. They are passed down from generation to generation: a sense of duty, Southern pride, and ofcoarse, an undying love for Tennessee Football.".....AthlonSports

Good post KD, you hit the nail on the head.

This weekend gets my adrenaline pumping like no other, and the pride of being born and raised in Tennessee and a life long VOL fan at a time like this, quite honestly, is almost like a drug. People like us won't be able to sleep Friday night, sit still all day Saturday, or stop pacing after the kickoff.

Win or lose, I'll always love the VOLS, but I'm expecting a win.

GO VOLS!!
