Tell me I'm not the only one who wishes we would develop and use our tight ends like Auburn does. One can dream . . .

It's not the tightends, it's the offense used by AU. They use the westcoast type offense and we still use the I formation with the TE more a blocker. Our players are as talented as theirs.

No question their westcoast O sets up for that, but I'd love to see our coaches get our TEs more involved as the year goes on. I think Chris B. has a lot of potential and can make plays.

You don't have to use a "west coast" offense to use your TE. Just because a team throws short passes doesn't mean they run a "west coast" offense. Every offense has short routes and deep routes in it's package. The "west coast" is more about reading than just throwing short routes. UT has rarely done a good job using their TE's or FB's effectively...in my humble opinion.

In UT's offense...a 3rd tackle.
Oh...That makes more sense. On a serious note, I don't know why we don't use Chris Brown more often. He has decent hands and seems like he would be very productive.

historically tennessee has not used the tight end as a receiver, but rather as a blocker with the exception of Whiten.

tennessee is somwhat unimaginative when it comes to offense.

Ummm...

Looks like they are getting Chris Brown WAAAY more involved in the O.

2005 season 14rec-141yds-0td

through 4 games 2006 7rec-70yds-1td

He is the only person besides Swain and Meach to catch a TD this year.

They have tried to do the same with Cottam, but apparrently he cannot catch a cold.

I think it depends on the talent level at tight end on how we use them. We certainly threw plenty to Jason Witten.

I have also been thinking that it would happen soon...oh well. I thought Whitten finally broke that barrier...oh well again.

I seem to remember his dropping a pass in the first game, Jeff Cottam, and then never seeing the ball again. Finlayson was another no-hands big guy. Chris Brown, to me, seems undersized for a TE. I would like us to throw to our TEs, but we just dont have that dynamic player at that position.

Brad Cottam had a nice catch for a first down; but even undersized, Chris Brown is stepping up. 5 catches for 24 yards. A surehanded performance.

He has caught one less ball through 5 games than he caught all of last year.

Hoo-ray, Cut!

Cutcliffe like the tight end. Ok that sounds pretty bad. Lets try that again. Cutcliffe likes to throw the ball to the tight end. But i think he looks at it as a short yardage option. Not the same way Georgia or Auburn use theirs. Third and 5's. That type thing.

Chris Brown got a few balls his way yesterday. He has pretty good hands as long as he turns his head around. Those passes agaist Flordia were he just ran down feild and never looked were scary.

We use our tight ends pretty well. They had around 6 or 7 catches yesterday. What more do you want?

Exactly!! They went from catching the ball the last year Witten was here, to just plain blocking backs and being one dimensional. The way we are using our personel this year is superb and you couldn't ask for much more.

TE is a much better option then the FB right now. They catch the ball better and are blocking better. I think the FB's are going to continue to get less playing time.

The trainers probably each had a few catches yesterday. I hope to continue seeing us use the TEs against good SEC defenses. This is the first year since Witten where they may be a key part of the O.
